CHICAGO -- Sami Salo flew home to Vancouver with the Canucks on Monday and is listed as day-to-day heading into Game 6 against Chicago on Tuesday.

Reports surfaced late Sunday night that Salo suffered a ruptured testicle when he was struck in the midsection by Duncan Keith's point shot in the last second of the first period, but the Canucks have not disclosed the exact nature of the injury and Salo was not made available to reporters at the airport when the team's charter plane touched down.

"Sami is day-to-day," Canuck coach Alain Vigneault said according to the Vancouver Sun. "All I can say for now is day-to-day."

The Sun is reporting that Lawrence Nycholat will be ready to go if Salo can't play in Game 6, which seems increasingly likely no matter what the exact injury is. Aaron Rome and Nolan Baumgartner are reportedly still injured.

"He played well in Manitoba this year when he was healthy," Vigneault said about Nycholat. "He's a good, puck-moving defenseman. He's an experienced player and if we need him, I'm sure he'll be ready."

Nycholat is a 31-year-old journeymen blue-liner from Calgary. Vancouver acquired him from Ottawa in 2008. He's also played for Colorado, Washington and the New York Rangers and has appeared in 50 NHL games. He did not appear in an NHL game this season and has never played in a Stanley Cup Playoff game.

Nycholat had 22 points in 37 games with the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League this season. He had one assist in four playoff games before the Moose were eliminated by Hamilton.
