Blanks, Venable homer to lead Padres over D-Backs

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Kyle Blanks and Will Venable each hit a two-run home run, and Jerry Hairston Jr. added a three-run double to lead the San Diego Padres to an 11-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night.

Wade LeBlanc, an emergency starter for Padres rookie Cory Luebke, who was scratched because of a mild oblique strain, improved to 4-0 with three innings of one-run ball.

Arizona starter Kevin Mulvey, fighting for the fifth spot in the rotation, allowed eight runs — three earned — on six hits in two innings. Mulvey's competition, Billy Buckner, allowed two runs in four innings.

Justin Upton hit a two-run homer for the Diamondbacks.
