SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Josh Bell and Rhyne Hughes each hit two home runs as the Baltimore Orioles hit six homers in winning their first game at their new spring home in Sarasota, 12-2 over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Jeremy Guthrie, who led the American League in losses last year with 17 and home runs allowed (35), pitched two scoreless innings Wednesday for the Orioles.
Bell hit a leadoff home run in the third inning off Tampa Bay's Matt Garza. He added a second solo shot in a three-run sixth inning off Heath Phillips. Hughes hit two-run drives in the sixth and seventh.
Nick Markakis and Scott Moore also hit home runs for Baltimore.
The Rays used two of their regular starting pitchers. James Shields pitched two scoreless innings. Garza allowed three in four innings.
