Classic, unfettered Bode-style skiing had our hopes up for another American gold in this afternoon's men's Olympic super G, but in the end a Miller win was not to be, as Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal stormed the course 0.28 seconds faster. American Andrew Weibrecht, a rising star of the U.S. Ski Team, held the lead for much of the race, until Bode Miller bested Weibrecht's time by 0.03 seconds. Miller left the gate in full fury, bombing the top of the course, but the trickier bottom half slowed his style, with a few wide turns likely costing him the gold. Svindal shortly followed Miller with a smooth yet powerful run, coming in for gold at an amazing speed. It was the second medal for both skiers, after Svindval's silver and Miller's bronze in the downhill. Weibrecht held on to bronze, bringing the Americans' medal tally to its highest since the five medals the U.S. brought home from Sarajevo in 1984.
