The Cardinals and Padres are among the four teams currently pursuing free agent infielder Felipe Lopez, multiple sources told FOXSports.com.
Lopez played for St. Louis in 2008, and the Cardinals' interest may be linked to the recent right wrist surgery of shortstop Brendan Ryan.
San Diego, meanwhile, doesn't have much depth at the middle infield spots. Lopez could help there, since he has spent most of his career at shortstop and second base. Everth Cabrera and David Eckstein, respectively, are set to start for the Padres at those positions.
Lopez recently switched agents, from Scott Boras to Dan Lozano.
Lopez, 29, batted .310 with a .383 on-base percentage for Arizona and Milwaukee last season. Despite his production, he has had difficulty remaining with one club. His next team will be his fifth in the past three seasons.
