TRUCKS: Benson Lands Daytona Ride

Johnny Benson, the 2008 NASCAR Truck series champion, and Sean Murphy have landed rides for the season-opening Camping World Truck Series race Feb. 12 at Daytona International Speedway.

Benson will drive for Team Gill Racing, which will field the No. 95 Ford. Rookie Lance Fenton is scheduled to run at least seven Truck races with the team, but Benson will be in the seat for the start of the season.

“We really needed to start this year out right,” said team owner Danny Gill. “We wanted to show up and let everyone know that Team Gill Racing is bringing a lot to the table every weekend. We have a lot of really good things working in our favor right now.”

Kyle Busch Motorsports has been trying to find sponsorship for Benson. After Feb. 12, the trucks don’t race again until March 6.

Murphy, who has 25 career starts in the series, will drive for SS Green Light Racing, the team for which he has his best NASCAR finish – a ninth at Mansfield in 2008. • Darlington Raceway replacing Milwaukee Mile on Truck schedule
