Toronto, Canada – SYDNEY (Reuters) - Three-times champion Robert Allenby capitalized on ideal conditions to take a one-shot lead after the third round at the Australian PGA championship on Saturday.
Fellow Australians Greg Chalmers (67) and Scott Strange (68) are a shot further back, while Geoff Ogilvy (70), Adam Scott (68) and Michael Sim, who shot the best round of the day with a six-under 65, are tied for fourth on 206.
"I think every day could have been better, even today," Allenby told reporters. "Today was a good day and a good result at the end of today, making a couple of birdies on the last couple of holes was nice.
"I played solid all day. The greens were a bit sticky today, bit grainy, it was probably all of the rain that we had early this morning and definitely slowed up the greens."
South Korea's Han Min-kyu, who shot a course record 62 in the first round on Thursday, slipped further out of contention with his second above par round. He shot 75 on Friday and a two-over 73 on Saturday to slip to a tie for 17th.
Australia's Paul Gow, who thought he would miss the cut on Friday and returned home to Sydney before having to immediately jump on a plane and fly back to Queensland, shot a third round 73 to be 15 shots off the pace on six-over 219.
