Tsunami Waves Roll Into Hawaii

Officials in Hawaii had ample time to get people out of the potential disaster area, and thousands were evacuated after a tsunami warning was issued for the region.

Feb. 27: Tsunami-generated waves roll into the southeast coast of Oahu, Hawaii.

A tsunami triggered by the Chilean earthquake raced across the Pacific Ocean, threatening Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast as well as hundreds of islands. 

Sirens blared in Hawaii to alert residents to the impending waves, with authorities asking people living near the water to evacuate. Hawaii Department of Emergency Management officers are combing the beaches warning homeless campers of the danger.
