Top 5 Celebrity Hotel Hideaways

It was a good week for hotel celebrity spotting.  Actress Scarlett Johannson was seen at both The Plaza Hotel and then later at the Jane Hotel in New York City -- hosting two fundraisers to support the city's Mayoral candidate Scott Stringer.  So where are the best hotels to catch a glimpse of the fabulous and famous?  Oyster's Hilary Walke found the best A-list hideaways and gives us a peak inside.

gramercy

Gramercy Park Hotel

The Gramercy Park Hotel is a choice hangout for the hip, beautiful, and famous, and its velvet-heavy Rose Bar is currently the epicenter of the New York bar scene. Ryan Gosling and Kate Moss are known to be fans of Rose Bar and Lindsay Lohan was throwing back drinks at the bar this spring. Our reporter glimpsed Sting during his stay and even Lady Gaga has been spotted sashaying through the lobby. One would expect no less from Ian Schrager, the architect of culture who brought the world Studio 54 in the '70s and practically invented the hipster boutique hotel in the '80s and '90s. But the hotel, built in 1925, even attracted celebrities before Schrager reopened it in 2006: Humphrey Bogart got married here, and the bar was a favorite haunt of Babe Ruth. Click here for more.

Rockhouse

Rockhouse Hotel

The lush, laid-back Rockhouse creates a holistic haven -- gourmet dining, morning yoga, cliffside loungers, a premium spa, no kids under 12, and beautiful eco-appropriate design. Stars like Keri Russell, Jude Law, designer Nanette Lepore, and retired boxer Lennox Lewis come to this hotel seeking a serene hideout during the cold months. Mad Men star John Slattery makes annual trips to this hotel in order to snorkel in Pristine Cove.

setai

The Setai

Striking but sober mood-lit design, impeccable service, huge rooms, three pools-- each a different temperature-- and a prime beachside location make the Setai one of the best hotels in Miami. Celebrity sightings at the Setai, where the rooms can easily accommodate a small posse, are too numerous to mention. Everyone from Jay-Z to Cat Power to Chris Brown has laid down tracks at the Lenny Kravitz-designed, on-site recording studio, and the hotel regularly plays host to major fashion and entertainment events. The Setai is also reported to be a favorite of Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Gisele, U2, and Madonna, among others. Fueling more rumors about a split between Jada Pinkett and Will Smith, Will was seen partying at The Setai with Trey Songz (but without Jada) in August, and Nicole Scherzinger, of Pussycat Dolls fame, was recently spotted leaving The Setai on her way to judge X Factor auditions.

ChateauMarmont

Chateau Marmont

As Hollywood's most notorious celebrity hideaway, the Chateau Marmont is the best spot in L.A. for A-list sightings, especially in its two fantastic restaurants. An Oyster reporter spotted both Stevie Wonder and Radiohead's Thom Yorke at the restaurant's coveted patio tables. Twilight stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson spent the night together at the hotel, while unlikely friends Tila Tequila and Meghan McCain were spotted having lunch. And if that's not enough, Jennifer Aniston, her new boy-toy Justin Theroux, and George Lopez were spotted there together this summer. Kate Bosworth and True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard were seen kissing at Chateau (before their split), Lindsay Lohan headed to the hotel after an Adele concert in August that led her to tears, and a month before, Ashlee Simpson and Nicky Hilton left the hotel together hand in hand.

Kahala

The Kahala Hotel and Resort

A celebrity retreat since 1964 (nicknamed the "Kaha-llywood"), the Kahala is quite possibly the best hotel in Oahu. The Kahala boasts a long hall of fame (well, it's a wall really), and has played host to everyone from Bill Clinton to Michael Jackson to Snoop Dogg. Liz Taylor and Richard Burton hid out from the paparazzi in a cabana here after getting married (for the first time) in 1964. Rihanna has also stayed at the hotel for some R&R and George Clooney has hidden out at the Kahala in-between filming movies.
