There are sex scandals, and then there are sex scandals.
Tuesday brought a shocking report that Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a child with a member of his household staff while married to Maria Shriver, and kept it under wraps for a decade.
This puts The Terminator in some unpleasant, sex scandal company.
Actress Pamela Anderson and musician Tommy Lee made headlines when they married in February 1995 after knowing each other for four days. They made a sex tape on their honeymoon, which was eventually stolen from their home, and it caused quite the stir online.
Anderson sued Internet Entertainment Group, the company that distributed the video, but she and Lee ultimately settled into a confidential agreement with the company – and the company still made the tape available to its website subscribers.
Anderson and Lee have two sons. They have married twice, and divorced twice.
In February, Tiger Woods admitted on live TV that he cheated on his wife, Elin, and he was "deeply sorry" for his multiple extramarital affairs. He said his wife felt his apology needed to come in the form of his behavior, and not in words.
Tiger and Elin’s divorce became final in August.
Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned in disgrace in March 2008 after getting caught in a call-girl scandal that shattered his corruption-fighting, straight-arrow image, saying: "I cannot allow my private failings to disrupt the people's work."
The scandal erupted when allegations surfaced that then 48-year-old Spitzer spent thousands of dollars on a call girl at a swanky Washington hotel on the night before Valentine's Day.
So far, Spitzer’s wife, Silda, has stood by her man.
In March, Michelle 'Bombshell' McGee said she had a months-long affair with TV personality and owner of West Coast Choppers, Jesse James, who was married to America’s Sweetheart, actress Sandra Bullock.
McGee said she slept with James several times when Bullock was filming the hit movie “The Blind Side,” for which she won an Academy Award.
Bullock immediately moved out of their shared house and several other women came forward, saying they too had slept with James.
Bullock and James’ divorce was finalized in June.
Actor Jude Law created one of Hollywood’s biggest cheating scandals when he cheated on his wife, the mother of his children, Sadie Frost, with his co-star Sienna Miller in 2003.
Law and Miller became engaged – but then he famously cheated on her with his children’s 26-year-old nanny, Daisy Wright, in 2005.
Fortunately for Law, Miller forgave him and the two have reconciled.
Following the appearance on the Web of a nude photo of Vanessa Hudgens in 2007, an insider reportedly said the "High School Musical" actress once sent risqué photos of herself to Nickelodeon star Drake Bell.
Hudgens had e-mailed photos to the "Drake and Josh" actor before she was famous, a source told People magazine.
"Drake says he never received those photos," Bell's rep, Jill Fritzo, told People regarding the images.
Hudgens’ boyfriend, Zac Efron, also of “High School Musical” fame, apparently did not hold it against her.
Less than 24 hours after he was fired from the pulpit of the evangelical megachurch he founded, the Rev. Ted Haggard confessed to his followers in November 2006 that he was guilty of sexual immorality.
In a letter that was read to the congregation of the New Life Church by another clergyman, Haggard apologized for his acts and requested forgiveness.
"I am so sorry for the circumstances that have caused shame and embarrassment for all of you," he said, adding that he had confused the situation by giving inconsistent remarks to reporters denying the scandal.
Kelly is no stranger to sex scandals. The most public one occurred in February 2002, when a video allegedly of Kelly having sex with and urinating on a 14-year-old girl was released to the Chicago Sun-Times.
After bootleg copies of the tape and file-sharing made the incident highly publicized, Kelly was indicted in Chicago in June 2002 for 21 counts of having sex with a minor.
Kelly pleaded not guilty, denying he was the man in the video.
After several delays, in June 2008, a Chicago jury found Kelly not guilty of all 14 counts of videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl.
In a FoxNews.com article in August, actor Paul Reubens of “Pee Wee Herman” fame, defended his 1991 public masturbation arrest.
“Had we gone to trial, we had ready an expert from the Masters and Johnson Institute who was going to testify that in 30 years of research on masturbation the institute had never found one person who masturbated with his or her non-dominant hand,” Reubens said in “Playboy.”
“I’m right-handed, and the police report said I was jerking off with my left hand. That would have been the end of the case right there, proof it couldn’t have been me.”
The incident garnered enormous media attention and prompted him to retreat from the public eye to his philanthropist friend Doris Duke’s guest house. But even though he was in hiding, Reubens was still very much privy to his so-called “friends” making a mockery of the situation.
Paris, the Hilton hotel heiress, was 19 when she made a sex tape with then-boyfriend Rick Soloman in 2000.
The video went viral and Paris was suddenly not just a romantic city in France.
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford disappeared for several days last summer, then admitted when he returned to the state that he was having an affair with a woman in Argentina – despite the fact that he had been married to his wife, Jenny, for nearly 20 years and they had four children together.
In March, Sanford became the first sitting governor to ever get a divorce in South Carolina.
Former "Playboy" bunny Kendra Wilkinson made a sex tape, according to a FoxNews.com article in May, and she’s fighting the release of it.
Her reps confirmed to OK! Magazine that “Kendra’s attorneys are currently evaluating and pursuing Kendra’s rights with respect to the purported video and any third parties involved in the possible sale, reproduction or distribution of the same.”
Vivid Entertainment, the company responsible for releasing Kim Kardashian’s sex tape, said it has obtained Wilkinson’s tape and planned to release it later this month under the Vivid-Celeb imprint.
“We know that Kendra has millions of fans and we feel that it's rare to find well-produced, hardcore footage of a star of her magnitude,” said Steven Hirsch, founder/co-chairman of Vivid.
Hugh Grant caused quite a stir in June 1995 when he was arrested in L.A. for lewd conduct in a public place with a prostitute.
He pleaded no contest and was fined $1,180, and placed on two years probation, as well as having to complete an AIDS education program.
He made a prompt public apology on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.
At the time, Grant was dating Hollywood actress Elizabeth Hurley, and the two broke up.
In some opinions, not all sex scandals end badly. Musician George Michael turned his sex scandal into a hit single.
In April 1998, musician George Michael was caught by an undercover police officer “engaging in a lewd act” in a Beverly Hills public restroom.
After a fine of $900 and 80 hours of community service, Michael openly admitted his homosexuality and his relationship with his partner Kenny Goss.
The incident also inspired a hit music video for “Outside,” where police officers were shown kissing in public bathrooms.
This former child star from “Saved by the Bell” was so stuck on his success from the show that he decided to make an adults-only version.

Hollywood bad boy Colin Farrell sued his former girlfriend and "Playboy" model Nicole Narain in July 2006 after he claimed she released a 14-minute sex tape from three years earlier.

Narain denied knowing how the sex tape was leaked, and the two reached a confidential settlement outside of court.
In an interview with Sean Hannity, former Miss USA Carrie Prejean said the sex tape she made with her ex-boyfriend was the “biggest mistake of my life.”
“I was sending a boyfriend at the time who I loved and cared about video of me,” Prejean told Hannity in 2009.
Prejean said she was a teenager at the time the video was made.
“… Never did I think it would ever come out. But it was bad judgment, and it's embarrassing, and it's humiliating to be talking about this now on national TV if you can imagine,” she said.
Prejean is now married to Kyler Boller, a quarterback for the Oakland Raiders.

In March 2009, Britney was in Tampa for her “Circus” tour when she revealed a little more than she intended to -- and then made it public, not knowing her microphone was still on.
"My p---- was hanging out!" Spears exclaimed -- twice -- prompting the entire arena to burst into laughter.
There are sex scandals, and then there are sex scandals.
