ACORN Lawsuit

" Welcome milk or rebel congress -- congress cuts funding and now acorn is suing this -- the nonprofit organization just slapping. The -- in the lawsuit accusing lawmakers of going against the constitution and they voted to stop giving federal funds to the group. My that's just one of those lawmakers Missouri congressman Todd Aiken joining me right now."

" What do you make of this this. Well Neil I think there really pushing the point here. There are two separate things that are involved first and that is the fact that acorn should be systematically. A value weighted. For all kinds of corruption and for law breaking. That's you're charging an organization of individuals breaking the law that's one thing. The second thing is this are we gonna take. Taxpayer money to fund this organization. -- saying resoundingly doll in fact -- a cosponsor of the bill 3571. Horse say we're not gonna give federal money to acorn anymore. And up so that's that's a -- this."

" And -- I'm no lawyer. -- but. I cannot imagine on on any logical grounds. You know suing that when you have clearly gone beyond. You're charter. As a tax exempt vanity."

" too -- to be doing this. Well that's right congress has the power of the purse and or whether we want a -- defense more or less -- decisions congress makes. And the congress made the decision to fund acorn in the past and we also have the right to not fund them. Since the ninety's we've got given billions of dollars to acorn and that stimulus bill -- were just discussing. Has in their potentially billions of dollars and acorn could -- down. Were saying null worst -- first of all you don't find them second of all you investigative and throw the culprits in jail."

" Well it certainly it seems like it's a hard thing to tell congress that you cannot fund -- it if you follow this to its logical conclusion. -- thing that the congress has given money to. They could never reduce their budget and less that organization had done something legally wrong. Certainly that's not the case congress gives more money or less money to all kinds of different things depending on our sense of priorities that's in the constitution. A courses lawsuits kind of a tempest in a teacup because acorn gets your funding back. After December 18 a lot of people think all -- I -- very good we're going very good point people forget but. But the fact is it's not at all clear there'd be funded it nor is it clear that we have any real will to take this outcome organization that is systemically laughed at our laws and take them apart in terms of investigation.
