President's Reaction

" Then of course moments after or or a couple hours after the shooting. I expressed a lot of horror that many Americans are feeling that these selfless and brave Americans who volunteer to go overseas to defend the United States of America. It is difficult lit -- when they are killed in combat but. When they're killed on the US military base on US soil. It is horrifying and so we expect the president to strike that tone. The president also expected to do. I commit the resources of the federal government to get to the bottom of this investigation figure out exactly why this happened. And we expect to get his thoughts on that again -- about an hour so tight --"

" Not -- in Fort Hood but is there any talk. Because I know there were some federal officials looking into this man's activities six months ago. Does anyone there in Washington have any idea out what the motive was here. At this."

" we have not heard that if anybody would know you better believe who would come up during the president's national security briefing this morning but. All indications are too little too early in investigation in the investigation to safety. Again still a lot of shock and outrage in in very upset people here in Washington throughout the country obviously the president asking Americans to pray for. The families of those who were killed -- obviously the wounded soldiers who are recovering at this hour."

" You know it's easy to say well obviously security have to be beefed up but this is a situation where this is a fellow soldier. Apparently from people who knew him a city with a quiet -- but it wasn't that much indication although some people say. That he was fighting strongly against being deployed to Iraq. And that he was getting an argument with some fellow soldiers about. These principles behind some of the of -- that the US is engaged it. And due to our people there -- saying anything about possible. Changes to policy. That maybe could have identified this threat earlier."

" You know I mean you mentioned that this is -- side this is friendly fire of the worst kind of guy wearing the same uniform as the soldiers there at Fort Hood. At this point we've not heard -- any mention. A change in policy but all indications are there will be some kind of hearings on Capitol Hill at some point. You better believe the Texas delegation will allow want to see that happen. Obviously great concern because Fort Hood is the largest military base in the world himself. There are a lot of -- you who serve on that base. Each and every day at this point. No change in policy. That we've heard recommended but. That will be part of the investigation once they figure out motive where do we go from here and and perhaps tightening up security even further -- and."

" He is a psychiatrist. He trained at Walter reed army medical center. He was working with patients who were victims of posttraumatic stress. And whatnot but when he was going through his medical training he apparently -- have to receive counseling. There were some issues there are any more indication of what those issues were specifically. Yeah that sounds."

" Monday Morning Quarterback issue but -- on vacations are there were some red flags with this guy and so -- you better believe -- come up in whatever investigation that proceeds from here. It sounds like somebody who although he signed up many years ago to serve in the military. Had been promoted recently to their rank of major. Sound like somebody who did not want to be in an active military did not want to deploy with his fellow troops it's interesting after being into Iraq and Afghanistan. -- with a lot of young men and women who are anxious to be out there with their buddies even after they've been wounded but apparently this guy. -- to go for his first tour overseas. So there are some warning signs and perhaps some. Finger pointing will come up to say this guy should have been kicked out of the military a while ago ready and well."

" And -- using the term kicked out but interestingly the Associated Press interviewed her son's pants. Who said that he was actively seeking a discharge. From the military for several years and in fact he even offered to. -- we pay the costs of his medical training. But it's not clear at that point bad. That he had made -- official requests or is it at this point."

" At this point not clear we've heard what his family has said as you just accurately recounted. And it's not clear what happened to his request -- scout lost in some kind of bureaucratic red tape. Or whether they said look -- you gotta go. Dear time you sign up for this tour are you sign up for this amount time in the military. But again all this stuff will come out and further investigations -- and still so many questions at this hour."
