" Now in the homes -- a big vote on the house democrats' health care reform bill today's main event. -- rules committee meeting in which the terms of debate will be set. Democrats hope to vote on the bill this weekend our next guest played a significant role in developing and -- alternative to what the Democrats are proposing. Congressman Dave Camp as a Republican and ranking member of the house Ways and Means Committee congressman camp thanks for being here. Good morning John good to be with what was your goal in trying to frame this legislation I mean in looking at what the Democrats have put forward what were you trying to achieve that you don't see in their --"

" Well our goal was to not have government a government plan replace people's health care goal is to not raise taxes not increase the deficit. And we actually try to find a way to get cost out of health care plan does that. If you look at their plan versus our -- plan. It's 5000 dollars less in cost so we thought it was important to try to find a way to get people. -- health care plan. At a lower price -- particularly help those folks who work in small businesses and if we're gonna ever get an economic recovery. But we're not gonna be able to put a whole layer of taxes mandates in bureaucracy. On our economy. That will the Democrats say that their bill will save family's money as well. -- their -- X is gonna cost us over five million jobs if the use economic analysis of Christina Romer the head of the -- economic advisers. Because they have so many taxes so many mandates and their bill. And they -- bill actually makes premiums go up and they also I'd make health care spending go -- they don't then the cost curve they created operate. We actually bring health care spending down a -- and look we don't expect to have a comprehensive plan. This is a beginning step there's obviously more we can do. That we -- this is something that will at least get us on a path to making health care more affordable and when we do that then we can obviously cover more people as well. Under the way the planet."

" Structured we're talking about this this yesterday with one of the Democrats in congress. It isn't it the fact that the tax revenues under the democratic plan are collected two or three years in advance of the actual out goes -- you have. What ten years of of taxes paying for eight years of expensive."

" Well -- plan doesn't go into effect for three years so they're not gonna even get this policy that they keep proposing because it it won't be in effect ours is effective immediately. What you see is what you get. And and so even the cost of their -- over a trillion dollars well over a trillion dollars. Much of the cost is pushed outside what they call the budget because they delay implementation of this bill. And and that isn't helpful I think we need to know is this gonna work or not and it it really should be moving faster that's one of the goals we had this whatever we did. People would be able to know and and and this is you know they've delayed their built not only pass the next. Congressional election but next pass the next presidential election as well so they'll -- no accountability congressman Dave Camp Republican of Michigan thanks. Thanks."
