" we have a very special guest the first portion of our hour this morning he's -- the stars on Fox News Channel and the Fox News contributor one Williams is here. And I I just. I want it. First of all welcome me but read a little bit of your -- to you thanks so welcome -- you know whenever you're on Fox News. It's always hard hitting increased pace to do special report with Bret -- a lot it on the panel. I think they call -- the all -- And but we don't know much about you and that's normal -- they're usually breaking news and stuff going on there but I wanted to tell people because I want them to know that this. You know you're you're writing your on NPR's national call in show at least you -- for a number of years talk of the nation that's kind of -- you -- start --"

" No I started as a journalist that the Washington Post really for you -- for years back when I. And I get out of -- it started really in order because I actually started before that parents if I was the editor of my junior -- I don't know. We -- an alligator in my eyes grew paper and all that. And then. Started working during college in the paper philosophical Philadelphia evening both of you evening newspapers anymore that's how old I -- And then that's -- what the industry has changed you know man I -- now have a hard time -- daytime papers exactly. Obviously yeah. It's local news cycle we didn't have a strategy room strategy room knocks out what you read in the paper and with his old when we watch -- strategy that's what I think it's on. There you go so that I went from there to the Washington -- and I with their -- means that everything from cover. The Reagan White House to write columns and editorials and -- the school board all like it's the."

" Awesome awesome well it is such a pleasure to have you inside the strategy room today and you know we're gonna talk some politics. One of the big stories today and I and we'll start off by -- them hot -- you are personal Tucker get to know him around. They're I don't fancy I usually do through for the top talkers -- day and they are the things that are either breaking in the morning. Or. Will continue to kind of unfold throughout the day my second -- talkers when that is breaking this morning this is really interesting actually one. The president summoned. Are Afghanistan commander general -- crystal. To Air Force One while he was in Denmark and they had a 25 minute meeting on board the plane in his private cabin yes. --"

" You know what I think he was a response to there -- life haven't you met. With general crystal now almost eighty days from now what happened with the journal crystal was on sixty minutes and was asked how often do you talk I want a president I want and instead just once in that seventh -- seven days here that we can go right okay yeah just --"

" And I think there was this sense that it was indefensible. Because you hurt people who were even sort of military experts well that's not right now."

" From my perspective in Washington I didn't see the problem I'll tell you the truth because -- Yeah because look he's getting reports every week from a crystal he's reading the reports in addition new which in terms of -- line of command. It was coming through the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff -- and the Defense Secretary Bob gates and of course the president meets with them regularly. In fact Mullen went over to Afghanistan to speak with the crystal about the report all that but there was a great deal. Of hubbub about the possibility the White House didn't wanna get that report Edwards was forcing the crystal to hold back slapping and we're hearing in the media and it was coming from several different places but I. I think it was ideological I think the whole idea here as well as the hub -- about not meeting directly with -- Bristol was an effort to force the president's hand to get him to give -- crystal. The additional troops estimated to be about forty cents."

" Well you know what you want. I don't think that they had to try very hard to to do that if they were going to hold public opinion at all because. The minute that the crystal -- and by the way sixty minutes numbers have been up dramatically in the last. Few months yes. And that that interview with the -- knocked -- out of park okay for them and and I think it was a good -- I mean it was yeah. The general was very -- boy and I. His -- daily routine and everything just kind of get to know -- and seeing where he is and how he spends time with the troops. It's sort of left to say and you mean the president is -- listen this guy in the sky gets on a helicopter. And goes down to some of the most dangerous areas in Afghanistan to get -- time with his troops face time with his troops. And our commander in chief can spend more time with him and there's a shot of the crystal now and in fact -- correspondent for sixty minutes -- even asked the general he said. This can't be safe for you -- I have to do this. So how can you look at one commander in chief. -- hits he's committing to troops in Afghanistan it's war front. Who's willing to go into harm's way on a daily basis to check in and in seventy days you're. Chief commander in chief has none that I mean I think that there is tremendous amount of pressure on the president to say something."

" And -- of possibly look to this man."

" Well absolutely I don't think there's any question but the but the thing that it is why do you think that he wasn't listening to -- while I think you because it's just it's not the case that you you'd say the -- what he's not reading the reports he's not listening to the military into. He's -- tremendous pressure let me tell you. To respond to the military or to be said to be at the military because American Democrats. Are always thought to be weak on national security. Have been thought through."

" The."

" I should say it maybe now weak -- strong in terms of evidently the Democrats are -- to -- not wanting to go to war and live and it and what -- on the campaign trail was."

" You know I'm -- on that Democrats I wanna pull out and of Iraq and everybody not Afghanistan."

" Who didn't it's been so think about what he thought all along he's had all along you've got Afghanistan was the real world and unnecessary war the good war harbors from wanna put it. I mean I think that was pretty much evidence that the QUS can."

" Excellent question of me and I wanna answer it why do I think that he's not listening maybe it's not that I think he's not listening and maybe based on reports that I've seen and read it's not that. You know the general perception is that he's not listening instead he's not taking -- heat with the general thing."

" Maybe you're saying it's not that he's not immediately sending the 40000 -- yeah."

" And and when you hear calls for him to for him meaning the general to speak on. The floor of congress both house and -- when you hear calls for that. From Republicans in the new here the push back from democratic lawmakers you start to wonder well is there more -- the store."

" Well I think that look remember this president Obama's already -- 21000. Additional troops to Afghan activity at that Garnett wasn't enough."

" They'll always -- experts you think about the military people."

" And -- the time that was thought to be sufficient and now we're back from morning. Right okay we're back for more lots of things have changed the election and and the allegations of fraud. The relative revelations about narco trafficking involving people high up in the Karzai government bastion of the question about whether or not. You now send 40000 more nearly doubling the size of our delegates so right our troops on the ground boots on available from 60000 over a 100000. It's let me ask you if --"

" Iraq and Afghanistan. No no that's just Afghanistan."

" No I don't have a -- could you have well yeah."

" Right there so you have a scenario now in Afghanistan we have almost as many people -- and so you're putting stress on the US military which has been under stress because of the long term engagement. As a let me ask you. If the generals come back and three more months. And say we want another 50000. Do you think we start to think he weakness and what's the woman -- don't have to do. Oh well understand are not kid yeah in general more credit than that we --"

" tell you let me let me --"

" Army general sailing the crystal already in London where he had given a speech. That insurgents are gaining strength in Afghanistan -- troops will buy time for the Afghan military and police forces to prepare to take control. Of Afghanistan in 2013 so he's already in Europe. The president summoning. His top commander in Afghanistan. To that meeting. And of course -- the president was in Copenhagen he was in Europe as well. For the Olympic Committee pitch so let's move on -- the next topic if we can sure. --"

" And you know what do we still have that web -- cannot pull up that website. I wanna pull up that website with fluid -- why should warn you well I just like -- like experiencing some. Take it you know I have the red pumps that that there Palin -- campaign. That convincingly -- my -- there. The best -- upon she -- governor of let me is that it's not I think people talk about her eyeglasses. The pumps that -- you know -- I think. You know I think Republican guys cannot get enough therapy and I'll -- you it's just -- might it's body oh and some severe controversial person style all. Women love it I mean how we -- Her stop -- if you look at the numbers you look at the parliament -- how is that what you mean okay well well yeah. I mean because he is so attractive when she's a beautiful woman well I don't bury it. Just closer -- hi my parents -- I think that's why these Republican death could get enough. You're funny you're buying out right now I'm with something called Chicago ends. For Rio dot com -- if you needed an argument for why. The Olympics should perhaps not be in Chicago in 2016 maybe you need go no farther than ask. The Chicago and -- here. We're three hours fifteen minutes and 39 seconds away from -- decision that's countdown. Look at that all right we love I think I love it and I think that's and -- Obama have to find a new favorite website. To check in on because I love the -- by the way -- deficit is building by the second as well. Which is one of the many arguments in Chicago why they don't want the Olympics -- and -- and cronyism. You know and and the payouts -- All right so that brings us to. One is there a connection in your mind between Chicago politics. And the Olympic bid. For -- there's no. Is there is is this island at the sunrise in the east yeah. So it Democrat calls -- you caught out we -- guests here earlier in the week Colin out to. Why not thought this women women."

" The Olympics and politics is -- you would."

" I can't the president went in for the first time a president -- in asks for the Olympics you understand. President -- held back a lot of respect I think that's norm. But back I think maybe not for him because of Chicago no no no Harris come on Vladimir Putin yeah but -- personally intervene -- okay. With a look at what's going on right now in Copenhagen."

" You've got the president of Brazil you got the prime minister of Spain you've got there all there they've run minister of Japan is. I'll tell us what you got we would actually be at a -- if -- if President Obama wasn't way."

" I think the American flag think he'd be going here is how I envisioned it and you guys know -- your regular viewers you know that that the and it's 3 AM phone call yes if not. A security -- Man before and you got to help me out there -- in the streets of Chicago. OK now think there. Wow that's being -- murders there really are outrage over 300 murders this year it's been very very violent situation. -- the Olympics. It took I clean up this meth. -- some sunshine to the way."

" Look -- think this is long term care you're you're thinking short -- this has been going on for a long time. This has been an effort by the city of Chicago in which they had invested I'm told now approaching a billion dollars -- ready. To try to win the Olympic sport Chicago right now that it will but boost it will boost land values you have all -- the construction you're also a peaceful years to reap rewards from the Olympics I -- I don't know what you missed my point you missed my opponent. I think these are people who have political ties -- the Daley machine who will benefit. But -- the question as to whether or not it's a money maker is not I don't. Anybody think that some money and that's very -- when you look at what happened in Los Angeles. Number Peter Ueberroth and I'm going -- and -- it. And Mitt Romney Mitt Romney was the failure of the U -- and -- Olympic they make money and actually make a little a little better."

" Took upon I Lan a look at that -- up so I'm saying that."

" I don't think that anybody accepts. Those who might personally profit would think that this is a money -- for government either group local government or -- like you. Well it's a great wonderful kind of spirit -- really even at the people who live there don't -- you but the people who live signals that they don't want a 5050 it is split now."

" For the longest time they were all about the Olympic and look through this morning -- up about fifteen well okay but I'm saying for the longest time it was overwhelming people want -- and don't look who's there Oprah Winfrey's spared."

" Oh my gosh -- Start that it -- you David Robb."

" I'm gonna look I don't look."

" doubt that -- was a star in America."

" You don't have -- here I just say who the starchy diet I guess this isn't American none of them to me if if we have an American city that's hurting. It can ill afford something like this I'm looking at the deficit -- the Chicago wants -- dot com again. I mean yes the time is ticking for listening to be announced will be Rio or Chicago but also to the right your screen is deficit. In the finish it. You can either say I think what Clinton billion dollars to trying to attract the Olympic Committee dead that's the bit and you pay you should -- the -- that members for the United States of America that's -- Climbing up by the moment and you haven't but the US isn't necessarily. Trying to get the Olympics well it wasn't now -- we attorney. -- that our president. Obviously Janeiro in Chicago making impassioned appeals they make it sound like these were you know. Cities that did this note this -- to have these two presidents to -- you head to head so we would have."

" Have been a armament disadvantage. Harris -- if our. Our president wasn't in the game Brazilian counterpart. And -- they give this ago."

" Luiz inacio Lula da Silva. I think it pretty well with that actually I think -- the perfect most -- president Lou. After they had that yeah. President saying it is time to address imbalance. It's time to light the Olympic cauldron in a tropical country never been in South America -- and that's his point he's saying. America doesn't need."

" It's as much as -- I'm paraphrasing now but those previously worked quotes. On. Very very very interstate and that the president shooting back with his own. -- this morning about you know well there are a few hours ahead of us but. So what we were sleeping -- About why we needed in the city of Chicago and and I just you know up until yesterday I really didn't even think the president got it. In terms of what's going on in Chicago and I was making -- you guys saw an impassioned plea for the president if he. And we're gonna segue into our next topic here if you really really wants this to be a post racial presidency he needs to get his -- to Chicago. It interject. In those young black man in the streets killing each other. And if it and it wasn't until he -- is AG attorney general Eric Holder and now investigative team to help. Solve some of the crime that's going on Chicago that I even thought that he was awake to the to the matter. And I'm being blunt you'll know when it comes to -- some extremely blunt about it --"

" We leave the Rio conversation. On the website it says head to head compare these two cities. Beaches can we take full screen that speech live pictures right now from Rio de Janeiro. This is Copacabana. Oh my Garrett at play here that can we get closer so I can -- rigor of -- equipment. -- beaches are. Copacabana -- and in Chicago 63 street we don't have a picture about."

" That is where would you rather being head to head beaches. And and what they're trying to say is -- for real let it go there please politico that we'll see what happens. Three hours eight minutes and 42 seconds countdown. Every. It's -- time here Kirk writes if Chicago gets the Olympics the athletes will not get out of O'Hare before 2000 yeah. I'm way -- I've been. I can't win you get -- Largo Florida what we do get one as we love to read the emails. Good morning Harris great. -- Williams of spying on fox Sunday with Brit -- With -- rather was always always enjoyable thing is that you're paranoid very thank you lots and lots of fun. -- Let's say a -- in Houston Texas. You know what I -- on your email in your whole paragraph in the bottom came -- I thought you had read that investors security. Is the company. In this country -- Olympics has been traditionally a local issue in all caps right. Why Obama have this intense need to be an everyone's business that he not already have enough to -- We have a rock star in the White House not a president and we need a president among them in Houston Texans yeah."

" And this is uninteresting question Armando you really hit -- something in my mind because I think we have a permanent campaign for president going on in this country. And in this permanent campaign of course there's a premium on celebrity who can you dominate the political agenda especially -- it. Or our -- that's what I'm saying yeah and you know what President Obama. He can do it and part of it is always raising the bar. Going on 5 Sunday morning talk shows at one time except for -- for -- threaten them going on. The Olympic run I mean -- it's never stops having a session before the joint the joint session of congress. It's always sort of ratcheting it up and demanding the headlines demanding the coverage. More press conferences in the first seven or eight months than any president ever. Unbelievable -- yeah and so but not -- but don't you think the American people want a rock -- analysts apparently that's the appetite."

or why. Because he was incremental and bipartisan or take that approach. Ted Kennedy was a famous -- A lover of the sea and sailor and sailors know sometimes -- right sometimes you have to -- to get your ultimate destination. Democrats are gonna decide which direction they're gonna -- is there a sense. -- Well right now the early grassroots didn't indicators are they're gonna push ahead and try to reenergize re mobilize. And use the death in the passing of Ted Kennedy is a way to save their grassroots activists hey get back in the game don't let the town -- to find this debate. But as we saw just last night in suburban Northern Virginia. The town -- remain very spirited and my experience in politics is symbolism only carries you so far in this debate has reached -- level of substantive. Interaction with the public and their lawmakers. That yes for a couple of days there will be a symbolic -- around Ted Kennedy but the public is focused like a laser. On the substance of this debate and when that happens lawmakers -- to get
it means going for. We'll certainly everything that could be said about Ted Kennedy eloquently. Forty has been before I come to the table. Which is why I asked you which is with thanks for putting
sitting where and -- And we see so many references to Ted Kennedy threw out and none of the nice as you might imagine Kennedy really brought out the worst and Richard Nixon. As president so for example march 26 1960 knowing he's been president for about two months at that point. There's a notation and hold -- hand that says check the end Kate Taylor Everton Kennedy -- meaning the private investigator that they had tailing him. Full time. -- few days after that set up a full time Teddy watcher. And then after the Chappaquiddick incident. And Ted Kennedy going on television. In the neck braces you famously as -- call. -- to ask the voters of Massachusetts whether or not
California says. Who do you think will fill the void left by Ted Kennedy in the Senate and will -- be somebody. On that -- perhaps on the democratic side or and an overall.
about the successor you know there's this whole thing in Massachusetts. Where Ted Kennedy writes this letter to the state legislature and says please have the governor appoint. That in the next sender -- can't be
be a tough legislative fight ahead. I would make this observation about Ted Kennedy's legislative legacy. Yes in 1969 he delivered his first speech. On behalf of the -- universal health care that should tell us something. Forty years it hasn't happened this is a very difficult issue the public is generally speaking resisted that kind of government intrusion. But Ted Kennedy also has a legislative legacy on health care achieved by two things incremental isn't. And bipartisanship. Look at cobra which means if
the overlay. But -- a little bit morbid but to think that Ted Kennedy isn't gonna come up at rallies and speeches about health care reform is it's gonna. And -- and that may be. Little
enough on health care. Then of course were understandably. Sort of missed Ted Kennedy has been absent from the hill for the better part of -- last year and would've been sharing his own health education labor pension committee that's looking. But this this working on the path to health care bill already so. What -- end -- sort of having is both the far left upset that the president hasn't been engaged as much as you might have been on health care. Ted Kennedy unavailable and now the Obama administration thing that the president's overexposed.
over who Hubert Hoover in 1932 and the expense of liberalism Ted Kennedy had found -- story. That's pretty good with no sleep. Major thank you well I actually thank you -- final thoughts before
Obviously -- historic day in the loss of Ted Kennedy and I'm always astounded by the Mets trivia and keep them off my buddy made. That's the lives.
have -- Gosh. On the spot you know I don't wanna do Ted Kennedy because they think it would be disrespectful on this and so -- will -- president Kennedy if that's if that's all right

Former presidential candidate offers up analysis of final debate

|John McCainfound at0:21, 4:11, 6:04

and comes joining us now is former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney everything is what you mean here tonight going to be -- Kansas where I'm gonna guess you can tell me McCain. When the debate tonight. Well I don't think there's any question about that actually soft focus group and one of the major networks where they asked him of undecided voters what they think. 321 Mickey Mouse and never gonna vote for John McCain following this -- really relative to Barack Obama I think it was John McCain's strongest -- since the settled back. Four on that was elderly out it was a great night for John McCain -- have to wonder though of course the big Fraser keeps can -- his game changer. And McCain needs a lot of game changes to reverse the trends in the polls and was there anything tonight. You'll convince enough people. To achieve what they were going to do to make a difference in this camera. Yeah I can take that focus -- to take my reaction and that a number of people haven't listened to what happens tonight is the momentum shifts. It goes from being all of -- and then I'll John McCain you're going to see. Over the coming days. Slow but sure increase in John McCain's standing narrowing in the polls. That'd be writing about John McCain comeback kid look I know I've been there all right I was ahead of the and it was able to turn things around and at night looking went after John McCain on taxes and pointed out. The when you raise taxes on American employers you heard people get killed jobs that -- schedule the -- that was hilarious -- go back to the winner of tonight's today it was an area that but you know they kept saying and they keep. Get repeating that Barack Obama and -- your taxes CD continued this thing which is the truth I'll raise taxes. I will lower taxes and 95%. Of American families that include small businesses tax breaks for small businesses John McCain's attacks people's health care plans in the work environment as we get twenty million people -- These are things that keep coming up from these debates and then you know Barack Obama is not going to raise taxes. For 95% of her -- what what John McCain did tonight by bringing up that total bummer thing was pointing out. To a Barack Obama wants to spread money around. And he wants to take money away from Joe the plumber and a small business and sent a check to people that that that's going to hurt. The employers in this country that's going to make it harder for small business people to start businesses and hire people and you know what the American people. Would far rather have a job from -- the plumber or anybody else in this country they would getting a check from Barack Obama a one time check having spread money around. And that's that's what I thought was so affected by John McCain tonight. Is he said when you raise taxes on anyone here in America you're going to be killing jobs and jobs. That's that's number one for America welcome to John McCain said that was not true that we sit that there -- be a fine that through the plumber would have to pay if there was no health -- presumably he's. That's not true if you're starting business United after the event -- not going to be true. And infect you get all kinds of tax breaks and tax incentives as a new starting business. That's the point the truck bomb was making about what happened joke at the start tonight's debate show -- well that that the taxes until the plumber or income taxes than they get and health care. And we got all got to -- not aimal plant health -- the best but no let's pick that one out yet. But but Barack Obama's plan of finding employers I think is a long way to go I think we have a much better way of getting people. -- without finding people. They're not providing material as John McCain going to lose people off the health care plan when he starts taxing people's health care about it -- don't have health -- how Big East is that we -- he had 47 million people that don't have health insurance John McCain is going to get beat each family. I 5000 dollar tax credit that's like -- check. To buy health insurance that means
Well John McCain smoked Obama -- I think. Barack Obama has tried to position himself as being the mainstream of the Democratic Party and out of the American people. And the night when John McCain did was forced Barack Obama to admit well. Even though the people in Washington DC want vouchers. And that and the head of the school district wants vouchers Barack Obama is not going to get into them because the teachers of teachers union doesn't want them and it and it it in Colombia even though we're spending a billion dollars paying tariffs there and they spend nothing bringing things here. Barack Obama is not going to have free trade with Columbia because this specialist with the unions don't want that to happen. And and I -- campaign finance even though Barack Obama promised that he would. Salutary effect that he would -- it would -- using a public financing well he decided not to because that was -- convenient. John McCain when that time metallic looks like like abortion late term abortion part. Partial birth abortion. Barack Obama was on his heels of the whole night I agree explaining explaining it and politics -- they saved your explaining what they're losing and Barack Obama was trying to explain some very extremism.
Now well you know I thought -- real stopper I'm Barack Obama is you know and rhetoric is. It was about George Bush. That was well when Barack Obama saying you know bush McCain bush McCain needs and they look. You're not running against George Bush who -- like little old line you know this is a friend of mine yeah. And and that you're not running as George Bush he's done that for years ago gonna run against your outlook in life and and I and and Barack Obama at that point stop talking about you know bush McCain. John McCain is his own man. Like him or hate him he's his own man you know where he stands he looked at the American people tonight -- he's not going to raise your taxes is going to fight to create more jobs. It's gonna get people health care is going to have free trade and open more jobs for Americans. Barack Obama was having to retreat issue after issue even the personal associations John McCain to bring that up --
