9/11 Memorial

" Yeah I'm I remember. You know that morning I was a little bit late going to work -- I was working down an American Express for McKinsey. I took the taking it to the World Trade Center remembered getting there. And thinking that rush -- happening in reverse there was so many people getting on to the train that morning and usually was the exact opposite."

" I see nothing to and I got a member getting off the train making my way to street level. Basically right below the north tower and looking up and seeing this incredibly large gash in the building. It was something that it was shocking but it seemed like an understandable. Event something was on fire. But every minute that went by staying in just a building fired today exactly mean it was a big building fire does seem like I can understand what this is. And remember seeing paper. Raining down I'm and then the first -- probably about 855 or so I saw someone jump. From the building and live image said never leaves me is the papers floating down and it's going a certain speed and then to see someone. Who's jumping it's falling much faster than floating paper and that's when I knew that did just had passed the point of being understandable. Now the rationale of all of this to lawyers bear. Moments later. Number two yeah -- their mom that I see the people jumping and about amid mediator to later after that. I just see this massive flash and a member of the pause between seeing his fireball shoot out of the south tower and the sound that happened a couple seconds later. Just ripped through. Lower Manhattan and at that point -- went from you know being surreal to being just horrifying the frightening. And everybody who I was with just ended up we ended up starting to make our way north which is what I did after that."

" Walking away. -- telling the story of one of our photographers and here was talking to him he was down shooting something none news piece down at Trinity Church. Which is two blocks the way. And and win all of this happened and so he's he's also in not thinking. This is real. When he realized wait a -- park my car. Over at liberty street which is right World Trade Center was up against liberty street. And he said all that debris coming down I think I'm gonna go over you is is an hour later he thought he would go over and movies arguably more debris falling on his car. -- in his car. Paid big ice at a guy wanted 22 blocks -- I was only there a couple of hours I -- full -- rate -- I got my car program on the western highway. In the building collapsed and the guy who display the 22 dollars two is gone. So."

" It's I remember I mean things would escalate an -- and more really unbelievable I mean I remember walking away from the buildings really running. And then at some point in my journey north giving back to my home in the west village. A group of women stop means said did you hear that the Pentagon has been attacked it and then the next scene our members it's crazier got crazier and crazier and taught finally made it to Washington Square Park. And I see just hundreds of people looking behind me in this terrible gas rises in nine turnaround and that's when that the south towers collapsing."

" But that would but the photographers did not think that there was a danger of the building falling he was just trying to move his car because of the debris and you're problem what why were you going away because you. You know that there was some sort of attack and you know what was next."

" Yeah I mean I I my thought was I I wanted to connect with my wife who is a schoolteacher. And I knew she'd be worried she knew that I was at the world trade center at that time so I was just this instinct to to go home to get out of out of the area."

" So you've got Iran and the show for the him September 11 memorial and museum. Home where is it what is it when's it going to be there when do we see it all the all the normal shinji get a."

" Of course well the national 9/11 memorial museum are being built on the very footprint of where the Twin Towers stood. The memorial museum are -- occupy eight of the sixteen acres of the original World Trade Center site. The main memorial is to reflecting pools that will be each the size of the twin tower based on that really and and it's pretty dramatic that the what's being built right now I mean people war approach these pools. With the names of the 2982. Individuals just absolutely massive waterfalls. That will really -- signify the absence of the buildings but more importantly the absence of the people who are no longer with us."

" when are we gonna see this so that's -- that's -- the big debate now is. What why can't why don't -- we have something more than eight years later."

" Well that the reality is is that our project the memorial and museum which the world is rally behind as far as their contributions. We started off last year with one steel beam that we put in a couple days before the anniversary and right now we have 80% of all the -- one place. Or about 25% done with concrete we finish the north memorial cool I'm and we aren't tracked to open this memorial. On the tenth anniversary of the attacks 9/11 2011."

" So two more years and it will be open for the public and then there's what I see -- 2000. Twelve will be what there's another year later another deadline for another part of."

" So that the museum which is primarily below ground will open to the public one year after 9/11 2012. But the memorial and museum will be the first two projects that are completed at ground zero. There's the commercial development in the east bathtub which is which has its own challenges because of the economy. But every state -- whether it's the port authority Silverstein the -- state the governor and the public is united behind the fact that on the tenth anniversary when everyone is. Staring at ground zero we need to have a memorial -- open for the world."

" The com. The number of -- going to be built are going there's a number of them but there is still the one that's going to be the centerpiece of all of this will be the Freedom Tower. To that as well and it'll be a very nice compliment to the memorial. You have ahead of fundraising campaign you raised over 350 million dollars or you're still raising money. We still have a little ways to go to develop the museum's exhibitions. And for for us right now it's about participation if you can give a dollar two dollars five dollars.
