Arizona State school superintendent Tom -- joins us live right now from beautiful Phoenix Arizona the morning news time."

" Well it's great to be with you I feel very -- that what you guys every single morning thank you you -- an early riser Tom. -- let's talk a little bit about this you are recommending that parents decide whether or not. Each of their children should be exposed to this or watch the TV program. What happens after at 1 o'clock in the afternoon what will teachers do then after the president's speech. Well I raise a concern about the materials that were sent out by the White House. As a curriculum guide to the teachers. They were written by somebody who obviously hero worship Obama and I have. No problem that I think it's great for an employee to hero worship his boss but I don't think it makes for good curriculars for the classroom. So you have -- materials that say before the speech. Probably inspire us and then after the speech what are your favorite quotations write them in big letters on the blackboard. That kind of thing that kind of hero worship but it. Obama should -- those people that -- which abused her great among us that makes me feel good and my wife is happy with it but it's not -- not so great to -- out in public."

" And do have a suggestion lesson plan after which is not getting a lot of publicity I so senator Lamar Alexander of Chris Wallace this weekend. He said uses a teachable moment. " Weldon the materials that were sent out are full of hero worship I think that our job as a public schools. Are to teach kids critical thinking. It's our job to prepare them for citizenship when that we want them to be knowledgeable voters weaponry voters who think critically. Positive and negative able to argue different questions. And so our job in the schools is to have kids look at different sides of things it doesn't need to be all negative but it shouldn't be all positive and it certainly shouldn't be. Embarrassingly hero worship okay."

" Will Tom when the kids come home from school tonight. Many of them will have watched that and we -- hundreds of thousands of parents right now. Who are watching this program. Whose children's with the children will be coming home saying you have the president came in MIA classroom he was via television or the Internet. What should parents do tonight over the supper table."

" Well on the you know who we've raised four children and had dinner every night we would talk about the issues and it's good didn't have kids -- different sides of different issues that something critically. They can have positive thoughts and they should also have critical thoughts. But you wanna teach him to be independent thinkers so that when they're grownups and when their voters they'll be independent -- word from we're preparing a citizenry. In order to have been a robust representative republic that means those citizens need to think for themselves -- review this year the state superintendent so what do you recommend. Well I recommended to the schools that if parents. Are upset about the speech didn't have an alternative. Academic programs for them. And -- also recommended they not use the -- White House materials but the teachers. Teaching kids critical thinking I'd rather than hero worship can. You make every kid and family watch or shell do you have that type of power. I wish I did we're. We're a local control state so. There are lots of cars that we should have and if I did the first one would be that they should watch FOX & Friends everywhere that's good."
