" Now -- former Arizona senator Dennis DeConcini Democrat knew -- Ted Kennedy quite well senator thanks for your time this morning. I interesting I read a quote from you today -- about Ted Kennedy he has a charm and I don't know anybody. That equals net what do you mean."

" Well Ted Kennedy was -- remarkable you know he came from. Very privileged. Type of family life but you'd never know what because he was one of the boys. One of the girl for that matter. I mean he he got down and he could talk to anybody. And we became friends that I served with him on the judiciary committee for eighteen years -- came from a very conservative state -- Democrat. And he and I would be on different issues often but there was never any Rinker. And he would kick me even -- it means they -- benefit. You can give me your vote on this legislation I promise I won't put your name and they. In the press release so nobody will know what -- and and that was a kinda the way he worked. And we worked on a lot of legislation together what we could be together like the equal rights of that I haven't that its board -- and he was -- thankful for that -- that -- been tough for me but it wasn't with the mother in the Bentley I grew up with. On women's rights. But there was other issues that sometimes we would disagree on. And I I used to put in a -- an earmark for him I was on the Appropriations Committee. And my that'd be your market for him if the year in my appropriations bill. Because I couldn't turn Ted Kennedy down it was -- Woods Hole and oceanography in -- Is that. And he asked me -- would do this but some of that one is. Let's get somebody else that went -- to you know want to get it off Verizon. And at that Dennis is the only guy -- don't do this Hollywood of course but true. A lot of people wouldn't have -- burn. But he be asked me did I did every year when I thought even after I left the Senate the first thing -- would say to me. He would say damn it I need more money for what old call me -- hotel. Once when I was in Paris. In from the lobby. And I didn't know it was there but he had heard from somebody that I met on the streets from last is that -- few hours ago he was walking around because -- Came in the hotel called me at my releases -- need money for what full. We had this great sense of humor that we just turned you onto the guy. And as it is present Obama just said he he believed. See him he really believed what he was arguing and what he was standing force. -- come from states and he came from the state that this was no was in agreement with him back on the prescription drug. Business that he had with bush but when he was there he believed it and he argued it -- it was -- right person. I don't know -- don't -- anybody quite like him -- I'm very happy about it but I'm so thankful that I had an opportunity to work with it."

" Well actually thing after he received his diagnosis let them a copy of my book written note to all the prayers and which is well and -- yadda yadda yadda. And surprising to me he quote me on the phone. He was then I am Puerto the call to calm him all I was taken back you know. That I didn't think he'd call me is these guys not feeling good and and we had a talk for maybe two minutes which was a long time seems like. And you know he I told sorry it -- that you could beat it need to let them do my best. Dennis but you know we all have to -- our lives as they come to it that was the term I remember he said. And it appreciate your friendship and thank you for mentioning me in my book -- little place. -- a couple of pages about it Kennedy and I don't know if you read it or somebody read it to him you know but -- took the time to call me call me directly which was. Kind of surprising because -- senators call you lose somebody make the call. Right and they you know Saturday because these on the phone that -- of the phone but. I picked up the phone and be very weakness in the first thing he says hey that's a big money for what oh yeah happy that thanks for your -- Thanks for saying nice things about me and and I talked a little bit about him. And that just is a remarkable guy and you know I'm I'm I'm not the exception."
