But it is nice and cool here I hope you're. -- it through this swampy summer because it's been absolutely it is that it lost ten pounds yesterday just -- Com we got a lot of great stuff to talk about you know it's been a slow week in the technology world seems like we're building up to a lot of big events coming up over the next few weeks which we will get to -- You can always email strategy room at foxnews.com. Right on right on top of the guys over there today. Also. Go do Twitter. Oh who. I'm Clayton Morris on Twitter -- go there -- Morris on Twitter. -- Go there that chat room as well they get in years conversation as we discussed the show let me it is our guest today. First up into my right is Marisa Taylor she is a technology journalist she's been working on some great stuff. And we're gonna talk about some of what you can work."

" And on and -- is -- is right. Twist -- the word and that's social networking sphere like people are. Putting themselves in danger by sort of not. Being capable about what they put up there and you know there they're losing their jobs their embarrassing themselves if -- if it's a problem."

" As every day that solid myself so Marisa -- great to see you thanks for joining us and thanks for having me out Randall Bennett because the executive producer of -- dot com. Check it out and guest on your show and what do you work auto protect me -- I've been created we kind of new testament of that we have the you know coming in every -- about -- technology headlines right but that war. -- That. We. Talk about a lot of things upon them we -- to to get as -- as you guys here and you can push the problem. Yet another new face on the show today stay in a woman she's a writer at laptop magazine said thanks so much for joining us in a nice to see you welcome for the first time. What have you been working on. You."

" And that. -- expert without expert about what it means more job seekers. -- It's actually but it is real and -- you listen to what you. Mean at some personal and learn more air. Their questions and -- what's appropriate what's not help people and emerge from all that on top and making good impression."

" talk about more about that as we talk about some social media stuff and also joining us is Jason snell won the only the lovely and talented you. Live from -- San Francisco right today Jason -- Incidences of -- I don't Buckley -- the weather was going to be an issue thanks for telling yes to that. -- you're welcome I want your hands here yeah. Great rhetoric MacWorld magazine and one of the editors there. And you can check out some of the stuff you've been all up audit covering everything snow leopard related because. What we think will be likely -- snow leopard release. Next Friday to 28 and tentatively planning open being you know it a snow leopard -- next Friday Jason. You know what you say about those rumors."

" Well there's -- a good -- and things I can't say I think that I think. It though bloggers who have said it's coming up next Friday are pretty reliable so I wouldn't. I I would not -- your you know your plans for next Friday I think that they're assuming you play against yeah I got. The apple store right record -- line right."

" Revenue in -- absolutely right. -- and I can say and I got on the same page Jason I can say certain things I can't say things I think maybe it -- this table concede certain things -- certain other things but according to the Blogosphere out there it seems as if the rumors have been pointing to a Friday release. -- sources reliable sources -- you guys know about. And I am I."

" You know what if apple rumors that come up over and over and over the most -- company about technology. You know it's -- snow leopard comes out whether it's not that. I think every Mac if there kidnapped -- and then thirty books and yet."

" Yeah you guys have been following it has been following. -- seven. I think this is gonna shape -- big huge move for apple this coming Friday if if we hear that it's Friday possibly."

" I think that apple changes are likely to be a little bit more subtlety when it is -- that windows seven is a revolutionary elected built on top of that of course a lot of people dislike but I think. Microsoft has more to be here that apple doesn't think people already up leopard -- people yeah it's it. Passionately. -- what are you what are -- running on your would -- PC Mac -- use a Mac big Mac lover. And I think you know for for thirty dollars. I think Mac nerds are --"

" Twelve point 19 bucks and that's pretty good you can bet that again you know 200 bucks and a complete home premium but I remember for the upgrade. Brazilian operate."

" I'm probably well I'm I'm kind I'm kind of a Mac. A Mac geek like that yeah."

" Since well since -- been writing about you have a column check -- Jason's column and I want to be clear -- the the column was so about snow leopard 64 bit and there were some bright global -- get. You know we have easy button here -- to get. -- here let's died a little bit because some of the stuff is pretty specific with the 64 bit versus 32 bit. What can people expect if they're going to operate -- snow leopard. Possibly. Next Friday."

" Right right well you know 64 bit is that so -- thing I -- the short version of it would be. Modern processors the Intel core two duo -- All current accident and that -- Xeon which is even more powerful -- right. You know they can references to forget what that really means is that don't have access to Watson never seen that they didn't have before -- approach system. For regular people what it means is that things will get a little bit faster there's some stuff that happens we're. You know computer chips into math differently in 64 bits than 32 bit -- they can do things in Wannstedt incident having to do it in two steps are three steps. That that's really for the consumer that's really the story there for most people 64 bit -- the story yet. There will be -- systems that will make it more relevant systems that have huge amounts of ram but don't be a couple of years."

" Yeah what -- most excited about from a consumer perspective with. With snow leopard Randall I mean there's really not a lot to do it from consumers' perspective of the fact that it's more it's quicker more reliable -- all the things Jason thought about. I mean wanna cut -- quicktime is coming out kind of you know the next version of quicktime. He probably better -- where. Depending on what -- I think nine which were. Amber -- the you know -- other changes but really realistically it's not. A huge difference and I think Apple's smart for -- and upgrade price twenty bucks because. You know you're not concede that they take home from my team and one thing."

" I'm excited about -- exchange. Again the Saturday field work quietly and exchange support I mean this is a pretty big deal for consumers right and for businesses I would add I think that exchange support."

" At least on the iPhone site has really broken a lot of business users may think that could have the same effect for laptop site or -- side."

" Yet no one thing where have you use your -- would work I mean you pretty much just -- into your -- exchange support you have to use bounce back between numbered and computers."

" And I'm pretty much locked into my email so it doesn't apparently affect me about it. Say that I think. A lot of consumers and businesses are gonna be happy about."

" If you look at you know Microsoft two days -- they're gonna have outlook support which is. Huge I mean. So many business users who are you forced to -- exchange. It's so -- throughout the the Mac -- You know there's you know if you look at clearances for entourage in the united. And people watching you know. Drama in the and -- we got the anti lock people pressured by Microsoft support that fit to have that be in the operating system it's really good for business."

" Jason this is a big -- united waiting for opportunity where I can be at home actually login and use my. My Fox News email and -- have to jump on -- some you know corporate firewall you have corporate firewall thing you know I'm running some VMware thing. It's ridiculous and this is a big deal."

" Yeah well and it's funny to Microsoft's Mac unit actually responded I think -- a little worried about snow leopard they responded. Last week by announcing that they were gonna kill entourage. And replace it with outlook for -- but they're not going to be able to do it until the end of next year they just Matthews is a lot of time. Siegelman of snow leopard you know snow leopard you just get mail and I talented -- just talk to exchange built in effect. Apple likes to make the point and I think you'll be hearing more about this and we -- windows out of the box doesn't."

" It's -- list its measurements. It's it's -- that's a great point yet that is a great point because you have it need to get exchange support you have to buy a buyout by Republicans -- to get that enough money that's unbelievable. Aren't what we're gonna talk about a little bit more about that coming up of course probably next week."

" Wink wink and -- lightweight and easy. Could. You know -- rumors that perhaps we might see this. Let's talk you guys brought up iTunes nine let's jump in iTunes night this was one of the rumors I was talking about as being a bit of a slow week but September ninth. Again rumor mill churning we're likely to see a apple event on September -- original rumors were September 7. So what are we likely to see Marisa -- this one on you when you think we're likely to see on September ninth time don't -- As the back over you are we gonna see a music only iPod event do you think he's gonna see iTunes event -- I mean it's that at the rumors are there."

" They're kind of swirling all kinds of rumors but I mean it sounds like we're gonna have and iTunes upgrade. I mean that's I think -- think."

" that's -- the main thing I can upgrade we're hearing you know that iPod camera. And if -- inspection right iPod touch and iPhone camera for the right to run this thing -- can -- like a lot less confirmed. With populist populist -- tell -- what -- We think we see a five megapixel camera iPod touch I would doubt it but I think -- I mean it really. The thing incidents in news iTunes iTunes iTunes iPod we're talking to -- you know some -- again speculator -- them -- Nine inch apple tablet and conflicted with them about. Nine and yeah you -- ever -- the rumors were swirling out seems like it here that has gotten pulled back a little bit what you think about the accident --"

" You know I wouldn't be as surprised if the -- were released just because -- were -- base would be built for the same ecosystem of applications that people are used to using with. You -- with the iPod and the iPhone itself I think that it integrates that more than people expect."

" But we think about Jason and -- see an iPod refresh and iTunes only refresh and of course the other big -- out there is Beatles. Yeah The Beatles numbers there that's an -- rumor and it's gonna happen eventually we'll let you know I had people's mind iPods is they want because like Britain CDs. -- The holidays rightness -- it does not refresh yeah I've outlined. So that they can sell it as selling more iPods and iPod touches. This this holiday season so that's really what it's about iTunes -- as part accents maybe we'll hear something about apple TV -- tablet. If they're doing it tablet that's going to be a product that is gonna get -- I think that's -- that's a big -- a brand new product that they'll they'll they'll put on stage by itself."

" Without Jason. -- really reflect not completely question for you we haven't seen HD which look you know we're seeing that. On the schedule fourth and fifteen I think right around there in this iPod and -- of -- night. What's your take everything Steve if people -- pretty excited about this and that yeah I think both Microsoft product actually getting from -- quite along time. I mean as I thought after the camera in your in your view apparently like what's gonna happen I mean when you."

" it -- I think apple -- do something aggressive with the prices of -- worried about sooner or at least being compared -- is -- it wouldn't surprise -- all of the look at the low -- iPod -- just goes down and ends up being -- doesn't exist but they -- with the -- the same game I think and the iPod -- has the app store you know an -- and it's -- yes it's only been around for a year and it's gone from being this sort of interesting thing to -- key differentiator between apple and its competitors."

" Yes so now The Beatles drummer let's talk about The Beatles drummer because we've been hearing about The Beatles -- possibly on iTunes for years becoming the iTunes store for years. I mean. At this point I mean who doesn't have Beatles stuff can. Are you the only one that doesn't know I didn't --"

" It's because yeah I mean obviously -- everybody but everybody does it would just be nice. I was reading one of these stories about how. You know in a younger generation. They're not sort of getting that music out there right there and let them listen up parents records or whatever so be really nice for apple it -- it. To include. To include that on iTunes."

" Yet it what's it what do you think we're gonna see a Beatles really thank them and yet there -- that -- think I think that we are talking about four shows 25% of music. All of the iTunes right now the great thing for apple whatever but you know realistically most people that really want -- deal. They have it and I think that. Yeah I find it exactly and I think like Jason had -- this isn't a big deal in the fact that you know apple. Live in the lawsuit with apple corps don't drama behind the scenes but regular people like. You want fields are gonna get -- whether it's you know I can download or. --"

" Right and it's all right guys that was the wrong broken link for the chat room -- it is also. Here it is again Twitter right now. Here is for real this time. So there boom it's up now -- would -- jump in the chat room when we talk. We think -- Beatles. Beatles on that Wednesday the nine."

" I'm a little bit cynical because the whole thing so. All the things I. Hear the content -- apple if it would. Power that -- pad that."

" It's very usual and are you do you have a Beatles stuff -- you Beatles fan you have on your iTunes."

" You but -- had few important CDs and I think that it's your point is."

" Maybe from one Beatles and -- I mean that table all lines and yet we're -- on -- let's talk about the state. This event because this is a big deal for apple right I mean this Steve Jobs factor here obviously it's. Stock is so important when he comes on stage was awesome photos of Steve Jobs. A few weeks ago walking on campus where he looked a little gone and still recovering. You're you're -- insider -- an apple insider do you think -- Steve Jobs at this event and how do you think the show structure will go what are we likely to see."

" Well it's it's some a year basically since his last public appearance at this event essentially the September iPod event. And I would be yeah I wouldn't be surprised he shows up I think -- in some ways I don't I don't think he's gonna run a whole show but it wouldn't surprise me if he. But here's at the beginning and introduces it wouldn't shock me he didn't show up but I think people expect. But now he's back they want to see him. So and structure will be -- probably don't -- mountain and hill. Introduced son somebody else's if there was an apple executive and don't ya know stuff through you know the stuff through -- maybe he'll be one more thing if there is probably like apple TV or something like gotten. And I don't -- it's a pretty straightforward thing about the goal here is for them to launch into the holidays where they have their best quarter and Amy you know the most money because people -- out -- the holiday."

" It's remember. You know within inches the iPod -- you know he was like one more thing -- little my pocket I'd expect Phil Schiller. This -- we've been running these programs actually had Steve Jobs in his pockets."

" thing that CNN yeah. That you -- good question noted -- earlier about you know is this iPod refresh and -- I mean. The iPod classic. Do you think at this point apple does away with the iPod classic goes to a total touch touch based interface and gets rid of the old clunky B hard drive iPod classic. They're really good question. I don't -- and so you think so Jason."

" I think -- a year ago when we saw the -- and we saw that touched me we thought I give it about a year. It might survive a little longer but I wouldn't be surprised Apple's one of those companies that does things a little bit sooner rather than to -- And so they fixed the classics have occurred just -- look. In any artist sediment flow -- was a few months ago they said that traditional iPod market is dying it's being cannibalized by iPod touch and iPhone. Andy what choppy all of that just it's just occurred entirely."

" never -- prices are searching to think about you know. If they want it most people to get an iPod nano that's going to be I mean there whatever. That they've put it up to 32 gigabytes that theory and iPod classic -- you're able to find that likely will undergo an -- you and touch --"

" If they think you -- touch with like 64 yes that's something like that doesn't. You know there's very few people who are gonna demand more than 64 gigs in their library and and you know for those people I think apple to say hang onto your classic yet. From the -- aren't. The -- hard drive with moving parts of that idea for a consumer product that you're carrying around with you and drop -- one reason they didn't -- exactly that -- did it all -- because there was no alternative well. Flash Memory is now an alternative and the sooner they get that moving hard -- out of their product line better."

" And you retirement touch interface -- really think we're moving this way completely."

" At I don't think that's part of me. That's. Coming and I think people get more comfortable that I've it's really -- it now."

" What -- to -- here there's a lot of things built into an aside and make it a lot more touch friendly and you know it's not perfect plan for the United Nations -- someone. Who really I think HP -- lead the way. Create a more in touch and basically -- smart you -- you know. I think the iPod is definitely. I -- here is like the common."

" All right let's talk about CDs versus iTunes when my favorite topics of the week. I can I was blown away by these numbers and he -- putting out these numbers this week showing that iTunes now represents 25% of all US -- music purchases. That's pretty remarkable but what was even more remarkable to me that was about 65% of Americans."

" Are still buying C eighties who are these people that's exactly about that my reaction and what it's like people still people still buy CDs -- yeah it's -- CD you bought out what you think of it. I honestly can't -- lately -- I think it was clear that. I guess contribute perhaps I think it was college college which I -- Italian island."

" So that's even worse than me I mean I haven't I think the last media -- like two years ago a year ago now --"

" And particularly by indie -- anyway I mean and about like injustice record like that your. -- I mean. They'll buys that you'll. The obligation. Incredibly happened that it looked like represent a -- ahead how great I definitely picking music by any. I think in -- You bite me help you -- so -- hopefully we'll have."

" Greatness Augustine it was this could does this represent a sea change here I mean. I -- you know. Moving away completely from actual CDs anymore I mean when's the last time you actually bought us."

" It's kind of depressing day urgently at blowout sales and there is probable and I think that event that may be bought bonds and dollars -- but. I think that really reflects problem -- that the retailers would normally sells CDs -- in trouble or. --"

" Jason are the only people buying CD's. The 65% of people who are buying CDs are they my parents and I. This -- all -- but I could -- an environmentalist when it comes to jokes. My parents buying on these CD's I mean in the and they want to show them off the Christmas select honey look I've got to this the compact -- that you wanted that you saw four months ago. It these are people are still -- I think that's."

" Part of -- I think people don't want something physical -- people who like to shop if you want instant even if it's a target or Wal-Mart you can. You know you can slip through the CDs -- you see something like okay I want to get that you can't really get that with download and and tons of people about. This new album that's coming out from an artist there will make engine -- next Tuesday. Amazon's got a deal where you if you buy on CD. You get the download the -- report comes out as mp3 in addition to the CD in some people like well I want a higher quality seems to happen. And I realize that I I'm I'm done understatement download I I have no desire the only CD's that I bought last year's have been. Because if you get it cheaper than a download which is out of a couple of times because it's not available on download right. It's just like when we went from cassettes to CDs that transitional period really well like this artist but not not enough funds -- on -- And at some point you realize I'm never gonna buy anything on tape that's not -- that in -- and you give up and more work toward the end of that transition now with downloads --"

" What you don't -- apple tried with this iTunes the 45 it brought back the 45 via iTunes store I mean you like me I haven't I don't wanna buy dvds. It's become fighting an historic stuff on backup hard drives and drove -- stuff and -- over my real -- box and it'll -- it's because we live here in New York City two and you know. You know you don't. Your -- the world of course but I don't have a lot of room for stuff you know he's gonna want disks laid around and dvds a look at it picked up. We watched the first few seasons adapter on Netflix prize then the third season isn't there. I want it to -- comes to show us something about about you but for the most part evidenced by. Them download it now worth. Now thinking of space and hours scratching. Involved yeah that -- right now he's still actually."

" By compact disks yeah."

" I did use them for the car when I lived in California I would use for the car -- have an icy and -- yet none of those ballots. You've seen -- and."

" You know we're gonna wanna seventh avenue and click on -- I've been iPod touch Netflix kind of like our house music -- Outlook so you use my iPhone just listen to whatever decision I want look whatever stuff on human -- And."

" Doctors that practice. -- The -- about email today so the story this week and I thought this was -- Lifehacker putting out that's a poll based on what they thought worthy most popular. Popular email services and overwhelmingly. Gmail took the crown as the most popular email service Jason -- surprised by Gmail taking the crown and it's only been within five years now. I think it rolled -- about five years ago."

" Well keep in mind it's Lifehacker readers they're pretty sappy and Andy did Jessica Penney used to be editor -- was a very Gmail for protein meal per -- still -- kind of surprised yeah. It -- does not not work for them anymore. It's true it's it's the Technorati choice webmail I think I was more surprised that it's still third I think overall in the in the research that just came out -- vote would be a -- number -- but there's so many people who were entrenched. On Yahoo! mail in places like that it takes time -- as -- long game but I think Google -- the moment."

" Dana White I think it is that people don't transition to if all the tech savvy people are hanging out Gmail what is it about the general consumer that still getting that you've got mail. --"

" Force of habit is very powerful and even if your your product that comes along its its -- And I think Microsoft had problems they. -- at. It we've surprising -- but I think getting people -- Google which they used by instinct. It's popped and they will now they're telling the problem now personally use -- use and."

" I have both Gmail and although I never use Yahoo! anymore. And freelancers so I if I sticks straight to my Gmail account. Speaking with -- with one of my parents -- the other day who. Who is I think a Yahoo! user and she worried about that about that you know -- textual advertising. She was worried that based on her emails she would start getting advertising that reflected think she was saying to a friend -- Which I mean which is going to have -- but. If that's the case on you know on any on any user -- on any any network watch -- he's the best one -- witches which I think what do you think Reynolds."

" I mean I think that's the that's the big Fear Factor right people are scared you'll keep being -- did when for the most part. Whatever you're used to when your for a few computers if you're not. The technology files -- say yes but -- a lot of people like Comcast you know. You they have. You know -- that I if he is there no choice. I think the people getting more -- thing you know I'd rather. Take my you know wherever I and -- my speed but if you you know not Yahoo!. Did the difference required to get off of Yahoo! and -- every contact you have like I'm switching -- you know whatever it is so great some people just don't do it on the other hand like. Gene that makes it pretty simplistic to say not for all -- you know to another place that a lot easier to leave Gmail ironically as policemen job."

" And I should mention yesterday on Google blogs. I don't know how many people -- this but I actually did this just try -- out before the show which was important old Hotmail account. They've now Google labs came up with this idea for Gmail -- last in the Gmail -- or send Gmail alone now let it import any of your old. Email accounts so any Yahoo! that was what was keeping a lot people back from actually importing their old their old email accounts. But if you look at Yahoo! account you wanna -- over -- Gmail. Now it's a simple all you need to do is click on import you -- in the email address and password. And and immediately brings all of your email into your new account the context of everything that they have to worry about it anymore. I guess sort -- like word telling people here you know. Someone book about one yeah. I mean. Jason we -- textual ads that Reza brings up a good point about these you can textual ads. I love -- of the camp that look if you're gonna send you that I would rather see it be something that is contextual rather than see bond -- he's. I have a good ten years before."

" Merrill how many teeth whitening the -- and if there's you can tell the site -- the world but what ads show. I think it's. People who think that there's like a little person's not there you know making -- sad to -- that's that's troubling that we -- the reality is now written a human being there. And it's free email to be some sort of quid pro quo. Eight -- your eyes -- give -- something for free without ads but even recognize he's gonna wanna. My -- he switched to Gmail. And pushed everybody over to Gmail for -- for our email. I use Google apps for domains which lets me my own domain and I use that -- Google's my mail server for my -- domain now and you know it's great. That -- so that's got to accept it. Your parents over onto onto your own domain and there's -- pay option there you need a little you'd like five dollars per year end and you know that -- that Google's done pretty good right now. --"

" There was something occurred in our offices few weeks here with my cohost -- on on FOX & Friends. Was still using Hotmail account. And I told -- months ago to switch over Gmail and he did so we open up Gmail account. But that he just he still was using hot meal and its primary which was in the state. -- And one day everyone and his contact address -- received an email that said. Hi everyone I'm stuck. In the Cambodian prisoners under on auto club and -- me. Would somebody please help me I -- while dismissing all this stuff is busy with somebody please tell instantly 2500 dollars and -- it to this address. Well immediately -- knew -- he had been hacked and wrote listen dude you got -- What's going on here you know why -- still using this account. He was dealing -- all he could not get a person on the phone at all at -- No one not -- human being -- call back at 48 hours they would -- you know get him on the phone the thing with Google is they're constantly working on updating its services and products. So finally managed to get all cleared -- exit contact the FBI. And now except that account down completely of these notes was -- mine yet let's analyze that."

" In Gmail Madison problem I have my way -- an account but I haven't used in year -- and I was. You know in high school wherever and it felt a lot of current contacts -- by the exact same problem someone hacked and and they sent a message to all my address book which included a neat idea because -- you know myself for."

" I -- I just you know -- the same problem if they need at a very disconcerting that like you know I think this you know address in here with some of -- still happen and you know. -- my -- today."

" Eligible -- some of the -- responses we got to iTunes and CDs specifically. I asked if people still buying CDs John figures rates only occasionally usually it's -- gift card or the album isn't available on iTunes for some reason which is kind of -- but there -- out there that -- Twelve that I still like physical CDs -- yesterday I only have dial up at home so too much hassle that download -- I don't think about that that dial up yet. -- Dell says they do once in awhile not as much as I used to go. That's her watch this show here that's -- be and -- mean like most. I really like -- your -- put our overlap top magazines is I think there's a reason that they've been reviewing a lot of notebooks not necessarily netbooks without dvd and CD drives they're going away. So perhaps there's this -- seeing a lot of that now."

" Up with optical drives going away yeah. With more of those I don't think optical drives are gonna die any permanently anytime soon. I think for some people it's definitely an appealing option or at least something -- live without because people can download software and then sell it or. They do extreme TV instead it's happening dvd at whatever -- they're watching. But I don't think enough people can -- optical -- that we're gonna see it disappear anytime soon."

" adjacent you're weaving from apple perspective if Steve Jobs had his druthers but he just get rid of it all together I mean we saw the MacBook Air right. I I actually have a MacBook air and I could tell you it's very rare that I missed the optical drive very -- Although it's good to have one around just in case of Cynthia CD was software yesterday and I had a moment of what was he thinking -- right. Now I -- to Caroline you know -- somebody else's drive but generally I don't -- that and Steve Jobs definitely is the kind of guy who looks out. Obstacles optical drives stuff and doesn't see it needs forest in -- I think that's one of the weaknesses of probably yeah TV anywhere. I think it's a whole lot more movement was -- player but I do you think Steve Jobs doesn't believe. Optical media has a future events and -- digital."

" Let's jump back to what we're talking about iTunes because I missed over actually part of and Jason just reminded the other if we're talking about the CDs and Blu-ray capability some of the rumors out there for what we're gonna see in iTunes nine will be Blu-ray. Capability -- one of the things that struck me that was the rumor I think apple insider had this had this story. That -- now be able to burn dvds. Movies directly into iTunes this is something that I do all the time your hand brake. Certainly we knowingly. Yeah but hey it's illegal to use it just not to also set to make it but I. And rip the movies like my Netflix dvds in the mail I don't have time watcher I just hand brake and I -- watch them later -- streaming over my apple TV."

" Okay well in the -- mr. Clinton. -- my friend John. My friend Jason -- those that doesn't ask. -- this is interesting though -- I can then take a dvd put it right in the iTunes right into my iTunes library watch it on apple TV -- this would be fantastic right now."

" Yes it's a shame that the digital millennium copyright act technical makes them. Rating that software illegal but you know if the movie studios want it to -- Hollywood needs he was green apple licensing. And apple all apple would have to do is say. You know what will rapid and -- DRM so you can't copy to anybody -- it's got your apple -- on it would totally 100 stumbled into the studios would do it."

" What another aspect of Blu-ray to the thing called managed copy and I blew it specification is actually the ability to pay. You know digital file of the Blu-ray movies and the other devices as long -- there's this. They're consistent rights protections in place -- that essentially telling -- permitted to play. The problem is Apple's. Had a lot of drama that we say in licensing. Consortium already -- fact that we haven't seen a map of who speaks few Steve Jobs not really you know like in this team. And then -- the point lake. They're still. Even if I can thing happens I think there's still a lot of behind the scenes drama going on that -- ever."

" Well -- he called back hurt. Yeah. -- also may see social. We know there's also room -- FaceBook integration or social networking integration within iTunes how much more social networking don't need the war in all of us in the in iTunes I mean. That I guess then you'd be able to -- in here your library me. As a -- right."

" Right I mean. It makes sense especially given rise later that people are really into real time social networking. -- even you'll understand the appeal of sharing every single song listen I don't quite. Understand that it's a little -- in -- for me but I think that epithet like pastry now that in real time social networking is."

" What people -- into. That make sense to be more likely to see them rhapsody."

" I mean right now I don't I don't know I mean I guess that's that's the rumor I don't see it happening immediately but I think. I think there'd be demand for -- yet I think it would -- agree I agree feature I would. I'm probably too old as well great -- So you'd love to be able to share your music folder folders and -- My friends are listening to discover you know what what indie bands -- very excited track."

" I think certain other FaceBook or Twitter -- I think it's great to -- The act on this new song and -- having seen a copy and paste the link whatever -- just like."

" In addition we've seen FaceBook integrated obviously across some of the island applications right now in and I like 09 we've -- that course and iPhoto you can hear directly to FaceBook would this be a big stretch -- think we'll likely see."

" FaceBook. I don't think stretch for them to do and I think questions will be -- that people actually use it sometimes I think applicant's social networking and other times it doesn't insurgents that it needs to do it but it doesn't quite understand how people use it so it will see. I sort of took the idea produced between all of their hands that's one -- and there really -- that's gonna but that's Twitter or FaceBook. But that said. It's plastered down and their audience Crumpler plugin and -- if you know you are no it's not gonna tell you. You can actually see everything I've played over the last -- years so it's kind of cool to hear them with friends and and stuff like that. It's on -- all the."

" I don't Manilow. -- working on a column -- about it. You know the office and using social networking talk a little bit about that and we can maybe bridge that gap -- we're talking about -- here."

" I think we've said before the boundaries between work place -- learn I think later it lightly. I think to some extent people are friendly associates on -- as well. But -- there especially there no real privacy settings either boxing you approve every single person that he was or you're completely public think that. It's challenging if he wanna finished just some personality and not just me. All business all the time at the same time you don't want you crossed the line and say it's offensive and or it's a little bit that's not fun that the buttoned up and up."

" Well I think out of all -- likely nothing like. I mean that you would have to struggle I mean people watch you. As and current Fox News but then also your technology. And -- this Twitter account that people follow like how do you balance kind of you know Fox News anchor versus Clinton the person -- you know on different personal persona."

" You know it's funny because when I first was twittering initially in the very beginning you know you have your small group of people and I can say. Enjoying an orange right now."

" Check out this lady she just you know. Spilled this all over the floor and a ticket you know it's -- don't do that as much and I'm very sort of measured in but I still trying to. If something really interests me I I I consider myself is it's authentic. Is is genuine. If it is and it's my initial -- genuine reaction to something you know that I'm gonna put it out there yesterday Twitter a photo that I coastal areas from some of -- health care protesters as woman holding a photo that said. No pubic option. That's he's hilarious at eight I don't care -- side of the political venture had simple you know funny I bet that's an accurate but in my -- like quarter but you know other people might -- you know like my sense of humor there's a simple -- followed or you're too you don't get a stick up your -- and don't follow me maybe something else what about -- working on --"

" Holmes well yeah -- I wrote a story today about that sort of very issue that increasingly we are seeing. People just really not understanding that there should be a line between personal and professional lives and forgetting that they friend of their bosses on FaceBook for example. And then complaining about their jobs on FaceBook. And there was an example of a woman in the UK that I think has spread buyer at the screen shots. The per -- my gosh I hate my job and you know calling -- I think she called her -- in Atlanta. -- that's he's petty and he responded directly to it saying you know what. You are ridiculous do you know that I'm your FaceBook friend. Pack -- things don't don't bother coming in tomorrow moment you -- it's completely yeah. It's completely ridiculous that I think Canadian and the younger generation. They've grown up you know blogging posting things on line on Flickr whenever my faith. And they don't realize that they can't be so you know -- all hang out with having it done."

" I think the question Shula and oranges not where we have you think about it. You know you start with a -- hundred people and you know those other people are. And their close friend who has assisted in the spreads a bit you know my case. And tech journalist and all that you actually if you -- one and but you know. People who are in this case of like to -- or there's a job interview candidate -- appliance Cisco Systems like American provider right and she did that yeah. The interview blame and I should not only if it really -- on Twitter and they rescinded her offer everything for their life you know let your right we and they'll work for a but I."

" You know -- this brings up -- larger issue you know maybe this is the opposite because you know is Jeff Jarvis writes about what would Google do he says obviously that and that's an opportunity for these companies to. You know I don't know -- Southwest Airlines -- a moment stay. We don't want. Maybe we currently you know say what you want tell us what you want you know we hire this person anyway and show me some force as a journalist -- you have to worry about it. You weren't delicate line as well what you're able to put out there aren't what you're able to communicate what sort of what sort of firewalls you find in in the social networking thing."

" You know -- I start on Twitter a long time goes a couple of years ago and I. That moment where I said wonderment did you ever underneath it's all about you personally am I gonna make this about work and gonna I'm gonna make sitting at the time I said I'm gonna try to -- it -- was all -- me it's gonna be. Mean making waffles for my kids as well as. Commenting about something that apple was doing kind. You know it it generally has been great because I think most people appreciate it that it if you -- follow me you're gonna see more -- well rounded picture of me and hopefully that means that when you you know you you see something by the -- something I'm doing -- oh yeah I kind of know him you -- more interested. There are pixels every now and then there are things I don't -- on Twitter. Absolutely there's things I'll -- on FaceBook because I have a little more control over that and if you want Twitter and every now and then somebody yells at -- post the link this week. To a Newsweek story that was basically saying. Can we calm down the emotion on health care a little bit and talk about the -- Acts and I thought that was good points and economic -- right back to -- immediately -- leave the politics -- as well. You know yeah and -- not -- campaign for people. But I am also not gonna just talk tech which is what the -- I don't with all of you because. You know apple on the -- it's like well you know my Twitter account is me and it's all of me. I'm gonna be careful with it but I'm also not gonna censor myself and make it just promotional vehicle or my column."

" It's right thank you fact that we have some do you for a you know in the media in the past few if you don't like them you might stop watching stop writing letters because. This gives -- more in the traffic urges more viewers more eyes -- knew -- ratings. But now you know with Twitter it's really easy to click on follow -- hear -- and I think. You know. The fact that people really haven't grasped the idea that you know these are personal -- what I think -- should be. In my you know -- I'm looking to get -- isn't sure. -- To be highly rated otherwise click. Yes it's me."

" I think the bottom line also is you know not from a journalist's standpoint but from a -- person's standpoint just be a reasonable. You know it just I just think for 12 thing is this appropriate. And there's always limited profile on FaceBook I definitely even -- I was at all the time yeah."

" Yeah I mean and it's a 140 characters how difficult is it to be to get that right you know. It's pretty easy to screw it up. That's true absolutely. Let's put -- a little bit here's the story through the -- I thought was interesting YouTube now about to jump up the amount of ads we will see. On on YouTube for a lot of people probably say when there ads -- Because in some -- discrete. In other ways if you're watching long form content like actually -- ghost busters on you to -- you -- on the first time which -- you know a lot of pretty distinctive. You jump to the front page you can see some of the full length feature films and I set my office. And being at home. And I want yeah. Ghostbusters a little bit but it whatever it seems the more ads it's -- the content. The Wall Street Journal reporting YouTube's revenue is gonna double. From up to about 500 million this year but. It's still continue to lose money -- that even possible Jason."

" Oh and -- serving as incredibly expensive and and they do a lot of it with very little revenue -- back and and it's it's. Into a company insurgent business model really and and I'm not sure -- advertisers -- there's going to be a premium membership kind of thing. I kind of -- a premium membership like what Flickr doesn't video does might -- better but. You know it's it's it's tough because usually -- overlay an answer for you inserting commercials in the middle -- videos that weren't designed for commercial breaks. I'm not sure there's a good model there and even if they bring in commercial broadcasters were content or or studios to do things like the ghost -- anniversary edition you know that's not. Dealing with all of these videos to get uploaded and downloaded every day for freedom they're paying all the bandwidth on."

" I mean it. Because I'm thinking you know one model that -- an apartment anyone -- trying to do this you know we are legitimate content only and we. -- walled garden whenever I think it. If you can work to create a premium channel where -- sort of editorial like we're gonna call the best clips. And you'll have first access to them we're also gonna make deals with showtime HBO like. -- premium cable provider and give you premium content we're gonna charge you. X amount dollars a month for this premium -- them -- and experience. And I don't really shot -- making some money issues they haven't tried that because there who -- and they think the way my positions through sexual -- Automated ad serving in the trying to -- button and without you know -- still. I think very difficult and very improved and I'm not mine mine billion dollar it is proven that."

" I think also to Jason's point YouTube's reputation is built on viral videos the kind exactly that don't. That aren't really conducive -- advertising and I think if you look at YouTube. You kind of have to begins to get. Real content real shows and programs it's not up -- the latest on Hulu think Hulu really is -- strong competitor. And that's there."

" that was the example of that did you see the wedding dance video -- and they've made the point that the Google you know the blogs that well you know look at how we can monetize because Chris Brown song forever. You know skyrocketed. On on iTunes and Amazon. So that -- KE that we can -- can monetize. User generated content and if one little -- right."

" It's one example and technically that -- is it legal to make like technically making that video of those people that they have permission to use music yeah forever like. The fact that it went up is great but the music industry would never let that be like the norms that -- be able to rely on that like."

" Yeah I mean how do you build content and how do you build ads -- this stuff Jason and in its other band. In other than ghostbusters they obviously did you have men's slalom -- that. The bridge is right out there and some truckers. That's his -- the ads on YouTube that's what."

" I don't know I mean it this mixing things you. Try let's give the music and what if there was a licensing program where you -- basically. Market video is containing certain music in and then having yet revenue kind of kick -- a news makers are. It's it's a problem enable video text of the -- is that they're doing -- just annoying and I don't know anybody who actually clicks on them and I mean is that I don't know there's an answer for for those viral videos on YouTube."

" Yeah my answer that really what higher quality content I don't think YouTube to me what the answer to on video I think that we've been trying for a long time to do on the -- right. And of course I'd love to say. The best place for online video but it but realistically -- Video is on video on the web as a business is not mature and when they bought YouTube and view it and they were hoping that. Yes and -- 234. Years since the body to. Starting turnaround who's the most successful and guess what it's all media Michael --"

" Once again it was old media and it's a little bit Yankee right at me I don't care if I want it. If I wanna watch episodes of certain program I might get every of their episodes and look at a clip -- and watch them you Boxee right now available -- I've said this before and again we're still not there yet. -- You know who knows -- apple TV thing comes out -- changes you know changes the paradigm in this."

" Paradigm shift more people watching -- strategy room I think it's actually watching -- you can put guys on Monday Catholic. Into the corner out of office -- video becomes more credible from a variety of content producers will see people entering space -- better just because. The have a better -- but don't want to monetize -- in the crush videos."

" Chris Anderson talked about in in -- book free -- you know I had to give my children the opportunity to watch two hours of whatever they want because sit on a huge television and watch Star Wars. Fantastic digital backs. War they get to jump online and want you to be -- they want to. -- so they went grabbed their their laptops and jump on YouTube and if we're looking around like on cat videos it. You know -- Let's talk about the PS three -- I want to get this and quickly because we saw rumors obviously we saw some hands on pictures -- vote -- gadget heads up. Take a look we can't some of the pictures of new PS3'S when -- got -- not. Price down pretty significantly."

" The -- it's our butts off which is -- people shouting appears to be cheaper for years -- that if so what are we what are -- impressed by this at all I mean it's really like if your home theaters you kind of we did that a split of the Goodwin has got a leader let there about you lose that glossy -- I think we'll likely get there aren't so. I mean it's a win for she people like me. And let us have a different. Patrick but like regular people at the -- home -- snobs like they cut -- off and -- gamers care."

" And I'm not a gamer -- care."

" Glossy finished it -- yeah and that it's really like that little. Potentially that's my radio -- of the big bucks for the glossy yet I told you we think there."

" My understanding is it doesn't support PS2 games which I know we'll something that -- California rain the last version."

" That's the case for a little while but this is cut off the discipline and on the compliment you're never forget -- to -- one. That you -- ceilings yet some what little family members that I would love to play that."

" There's some kids out there who just every few years might get new. Console but. In this case you have a whole pile of games and yes you which -- even that old. You're you're out of luck that."

" That's obviously one of reasons why I didn't jump to the US three because -- excuse to games and you can play in Iowa and multiple consoles hooked up on different. The controllers -- think about the he has excellent."

" Well Eileen as somebody whose interest in Blu-ray and I have had people tell me very knowledgeable people that the PlayStation. Three was the best Blu-ray player. Now what's the price and I said kind. I just because I don't play enough games so hundred dollars less. I guess I'm an intrigue plus plus games and we -- my kids love it but I I. Much more likely to buy it now that -- a hundred dollars less for Blu-ray and games are almost an -- on."

" I think gamers I've been a little bit disappointed that he has created frankly I don't think -- runaway success in terms of exclusive games you can't get anywhere else. Yeah -- do you think that people looking about the players -- The PS3 or was he the most today live where I have yet but actually if you haven't really -- Blu-ray player you have to go all the way from mr. Bloomberg -- Like you as far as things like that go you can get through all of the updated the most secure and."

" I have it on boxing wanted to try to do a few minutes -- Things have been badly are assured you'll on boxing here I -- the -- this is the excuse. Gaming news new book. The G 51 this is a bad boy Jason and arrogance and Francisco -- Here it is a full value of six got a transformers logo on the front did you get reviewed you guys have been reviewing these over there what do you guys think about this."

" We think a lot of it is pretty -- review I should say that -- team configurations in the one years you've cost a little bit over a thousand dollars -- a real budget. Machine and once we that was pretty good for that price the problem was the resolution isn't that -- sale but things like email web -- thirteen 66 by 768 just fine but if -- playing games. You might want something a little bit crisper and that's where this configurations and notices from best buy. And this one costs 1700 it has fully --"

" I think the part I'm looking my maybe idea to play I love playing in my -- I mean yeah my side. And but yet if I might have to figure out and having a game that -- complain that Mars."

" Yet it's running it's running it's running windows seven."

" what -- we have been here."

" Yet -- with that one of these other big gaming laptops before and things are huge. I always I mean it trend in gaming laptops rather than desktop version of it which I find interesting. You know slower boot but did aces really try to find -- some different things in the space to which it uninteresting I mean they're they're not just doing netbooks. They're they're actually gaming notebooks long before netbooks actually prove that they developed -- kind of you know but. Accompaniment transports -- whether it's. And in that motherboard but I think yeah because a component company and it looks really put them on the -- and now they're being recognized for things they've done for a long time since. In the notebooks and a -- the bottom I believe it's. The -- the big but it. He's coming up like a proper level we were impressed by the -- review. That's great I wanna check out the the full review -- over the laptop magazine check out their full review of this bad boy. We give I'm gonna give the world I just got a summit in the world for a senate back plays games world warcraft perhaps a and now the best part -- played on your dad is having sit up in a room somewhere."

" I -- what let's go a little round Robin here in talk about what he -- all the folks are working on. Jason snell editor of MacWorld magazine -- you working on in what can we expect from you and next week see you next Friday. Well well that's -- snow -- last week when you look. Down coal and watch a little dot com for all and if -- Now but he's in September leader mullah -- it will you know get the full court press as usual. Cool maybe we'll have you back if you're free if you have some time there right around that event time if there is an -- Allegedly events yes check out a -- check out -- columns over at MacWorld dot com you can read his excellent column on 64 bit snow leopard."

" And some of the controversy there back and forth -- understand it better he is certainly got to do with Jason as always great to see my friend thinks -- Effective using drivers on the basically. I think Jason I did a -- that is of course a -- laptop magazine again what are you working on what to expect from you coming up."

" I actually just been working this story called how to be -- better digital parent and -- Pittsburgh you monitor and control what your children are doing fine and let me start begin this story with there's absolutely product that really give parents -- control over their kids Webster at. And -- where. You can check out boxes that's what kind of content -- lets you specify what kinds of data cadillacs you. If the computers say 35 -- we should be doing homework. So I'll be talking to the people who make those products and also parents get their company control their kids -- added that eat out there and break in."

" Nice to see you thanks for -- show him. Randall Bennett is overtake the dot com what are you working on -- this -- actually you're gonna get so I am next Wednesday at a similar setbacks when they can -- Again look like daily news kind of outfit so. It's hard to know in fact run it -- except for -- We might documents that it might -- asked about it probably. You know tablet. Should I showed you too short -- it's -- you get you know couple different -- maybe one maybe two and you take one topic he hit it hard to go deep and I'm really like five minutes -- would -- Get a little bit about your perspective around the typical you know there were blog yeah great job and thanks for coming on -- Taylor. She's been writing she's a working -- tail off your audience since Friday to you really -- to right but you've been writing all week."

" What do we -- we you know next week if I told you I would have to kill you. -- that have that story out about you know social media reputations. You know verses. Online versus word and and all that but that next week it's if anyone's guess what matters breaking sort of stated preferences -- department."

" That's gonna do it forgets -- games -- associate back here next Friday perhaps. With a special edition. On snow leopard. Possibly or hit boxing friends tomorrow morning at 7 AM thanks -- based on my guest on Friday."
