" The liberty power hour. Hours not welcome a freedom watch. A sixty minute projection of raw liberty. Streaming from a highly acclaimed strategy relevant boxes that. I'm -- right -- and a we'll discuss issues that profoundly affect your freedom. You're civil liberties your financial liberties and you're right you're absolutely right to have a government. That stays within the confines of the constitution. It's my great pleasure to introduce one of America's great defenders of freedom in congress and elsewhere congressman Ron Paul joins us from our nation's capital. On the -- welcome freedom watch. Well he's joining us is my dear friend and mentor Lou Rockwell. Founder of the look big -- since institute in Auburn Alabama. A research and educational center of classical liberalism and wants to an Austrian. Economics familiar to many of you little. Could you will be. Thank you. A congressman -- first you. What is your greatest here. The president's health care proposals."

" Well we don't get some modification and what you will see is the cost of medical care sky rocketing. At the same time they will be price controls placed on it and you have scarcity and quality care will go downhill. The only saving grace could be if they -- now. Something to be put in here we you can opt out of his system and take care of yourself. Although it would be a disaster. Trying to put eighty or 90% of the government if you were allowed to opt out at least that would be a little bit of hope. To keep of the strings tied on the federal government right now it doesn't look very good for the patient."

" One -- permitted congressman Paul just articulated. To opt out of the system. It sensible to think that insurance companies can really compete with the government. I mean for example what why should the head of any company. Provide private insurance for his or her employees. If the government is gonna provided at taxpayer expense anyway."

" What did you make a good point and I think that it would be tough. On the other hand won only of the visit -- VA hospital or Indian Health Service hospital or. Any other government metal medical facility to realize what a disaster and -- the great these things or. So certainly anybody is allowed to opt out -- me who financially could do it would opt out the trouble is. We do we do not allow for example people who -- over 65 opt out of Medicare they're forced into it that we do not in this country have a good record of medical freedom."

" Notwithstanding. The president's promise congressman Paul that if you like your present insurance. Like your relationship with your position. You can keep the carrier keep that relationship. Don't you think that the government would intrude even into the position. Patient relationship and we heard this morning talk about. Best practices. Some sort of a panel of physicians tired by the government. We'll tell other practicing physicians. What menu of choices is available for. I -- the role of federal government should be playing in our lives as it."

" Now I have absolutely no line and you know you might not have this so called freedom that off now which has its shortcomings."

" But what if they doctors are getting tired of this whether their 56 in May -- decide to retire which many have already started doing. Which is managed care system our system is very perfect right now honestly guys complaining about it."

" It's. It's very imperfect end. Eventually you'll lose your doctor anyway I mean what it -- the Canadians have a choice to their doctor. Now I I think it will be restricted it and I'm just convinced that the the result will be poor care for all Americans. Except for the very very few and very rich of course are always do. In the Soviet system that went to -- the position that is where the political hacks. It would become the people who with a political power houses maybe go to the clinics that is always especially. And in this country up until now of course people got pretty. And care and even I remember practicing medicine before we hit."

" Insurance I -- we can solve this problem was we. Decided he'd find what insurance is this has nothing to do with insurance is his death."

" Pain care everybody has its right to medicines I have heard you mention this before --"

" This assumption that you have a wiped -- of medical care that's the wrong assumption sounds good."

" But it sets of on cents us on the wrong track and that leads to the disaster that we're."

" The government has succeeded congressman -- you know this better than. Than anybody because you've been spending the bulk of your professional career battling against it in convincing the American people that government is the solution. People say to me if I'm sure they see all -- forty million uninsured and what is expected to let. Shouldn't government be absolute last resort and in the case of the federal government. Because it's not authorized by the constitution. No resort can't the free market addressed almost any problem of that magnitude it. If on impeded by government regulation."

" That's right they don't have the right to do it once again I think it's a definition coming out insurance. To be insured against an accident. Or against cancer or whatever. When you're when you're twenty years don't even have a different attitude about insurance. I don't recall my parents having insurance in the 1950s. And they --"

" You know that it wasn't all that expensive right now and another thing people don't talk about is there's a lot of price inflation in medical care. "

" We have a lot of monetary inflation CPI is not going up but the cost the government and custom medical care is skyrocketing. -- there weren't as a monetary phenomenon in this is well and of course Obama says all we have to lower the costs and everybody is going to have this free here -- him."

" Is the question where is this can't confront. I mean does the government -- government deliver care that they can only confiscated from those who provide the care one way or the other."

" And unfortunately. It's it's doomed to fail it's really sad tragedy because we've given up on even thinking about how you could. Possibly deliver medical care in a free society."

" isn't one of the truly insidious nature of what the president is proposing. That it might get past. And people might order their lives in expectation of receiving these services sort of like seniors can now with respect to Medicare and might become. Politically impossible. To end it or stop or returned to the free market."

" Well this it is very difficult we -- look at what happened in other countries and whether the UK York. Or the country in Europe when they adopt these programs yet become politically your candidate matter. Politically very tough to get rid of it on the other hand of the recent court decision candidate showed there -- it is possible even under these systems to expand freedom. I think we're just going to have to do it and do it -- Lenovo group of a group of doctors who are thinking of buying a cruise ship. And they can get twelve miles off the coast of new York. And pulling you know. -- then what you paid for it. You pay the doctor the doctor is responsible you with the employer. That's the proper thing in medicine but everything you've been elected president we've had these third party payers. Because -- possible to live with Linda on the docket no responsible for the patient the patient at the bump in the road together over the get the -- the blue cross sort of Medicare and Medicaid or. Whatever else. But the that the little bit. Bad I think we need to think about how we're going to as if they succeed in putting this through an offering little Walter Reed. Hitler battle the amount of money. We have to think about how weak and the heat from the system. I don't think it's a very good thing to think about an education and many other areas we need in the heat from the tyrannical system."

" Unbelievable that would actually have to leave the country in order to get the -- that health care which were intent of congress -- fall. I know on this hectic Wednesday afternoon you have to go and vote but I wanted to ask -- question. That's something you -- talked about. Over the weekend last week the House of Representatives voted with the only one dissent. To condemn the outcome. Of the of the apparent outcome of the election for president of Iran you aware of that descent what what was the house trying to do. And why did you dissent."

" Well they were trying to send a message that the president wasn't speaking loudly enough out for the dissenters in the streets of Iran. -- and I have nothing against them back I think that's very encouraging. But it also raises more questions and answers. Who's behind it is our CIA behind that you know we're spending we have a program 400 million dollars. To undermine the government. So on this top PI is not necessarily a saint eve here and."

" This resolution sounded like it may be endorsing him but my position is strictly constitutional."

" Mind our own business we can't sort all this out. And if freedom writers around the world are are showing that they can. Change your system we should. Welcome hand crazy -- that we don't mean to imply that we know -- what's going on them and who when -- can dam and pick sides."

" But the reason that the reason Obama was correct in this."

" you know he says something similar reasons why should we asked speak up because we might get blamed it might look like you --"

" He had more at stake although what I said was somewhat similar he had a little bit more protection I want you -- who's that."

" There's some evidence to show that we are constantly involved in any of these countries and -- Big secret that we had a program to undermine. The government. Iran. And and judge I'm sorry that I will excuse myself now if that we --"

" Absolutely congressman Paul thanks very much thanks for joining kind. Mary Shelley Shelley -- joins us now she's actually been the whole time. Taking emails and taking two weeks from those of you Twitter too shall it was a pleasure to welcome back to freedom watch. What do you have for us anything for Lou Rockwell anything for congressman Falwell that will answer it earnings for your humble host and good body. Check back at."

" People are asking what role that the local government and the states can play and that basically -- health care situation."

" It's an interesting question Lou -- the state governments. Play any role in and health care regulations state of our Soledad humane uh oh. It's on the -- of enacting legislation. Which would give people in Arizona the right to reject the federal program no matter what it commands I mean there's going to be. Constitutional. Federalism problems there but at least it's state Arizona of all places maybe since my namesake it's no longer govern. Arizona returning to Barry Goldwater roots. At least there's a statement standing up for individual freedom if -- anymore that's coming --"

" Yeah isn't happening all across the country not only -- to look -- including the Patriot Act and the an -- screwdriver bulletin -- they don't know there's more. Book permit them -- Welcome state sovereignty versus little government. I think there's yet it's going to be a clinical and then they know cause in the good old American tradition. You know blatantly unconstitutional -- position like this little of people -- and putting them mr. Obama's talking about. It's -- and I think and believe it is the great thing and who knows I mean that. They've got the equivalent of rebelled against king George the third pivotal delegates can block with the."

" They might and might very well have to do -- be very interesting to see -- firm judges. Would do with -- getting back to. To foreign policy what what what is your take flu. On what's happening in Iran today and what if anything the American government. Should do I hate myself. And as pure Jeffersonian you can get on foreign policy. I believe that was so obvious no Jefferson and just as much a monster. -- my division I would be but obviously my heart. Goes to those people demonstrating in the streets they may not get any more freedom. But god bless their efforts to try and achieve."

" Well I think it's I think it's wonderful Olympic -- that again chosen that there is actually more openness in the Iran. Than there are they in the US puppet state of Egypt. Where there were demonstrations like this people old people move all of that would be on the machine gun. So. There's I would think some hope there and I I believe the quality who with a -- but the fact along on Salman Rushdie's. Calling for the death penalty for somebody wrote a book he didn't like. So he's not a good guy anywhere in the firing squad after the after the Islamic for a revolution took place. So yeah he's the he's he's not a good guy that I would say we don't know what's going on and -- none of us know. Another look because they are very few -- because. Very few of us understand the politics -- program and certainly notable movement in congress with the exception of the one man all of the one. Loan man speaking out recruitment freedom Ron Paul. We don't believe guys in congress don't know anything about programs that absolutely don't metal layer of President Obama that at least initial. Feeling about just saying it's none of the US food business of both heroic he's unfortunately moving in in more interventionist position but. Congress who played a very bad role."

" He's he's moving that way because he has his finger in the wind. And because he says he's feeling some heat or so wind as the case may be here on the new look under pressure. Are pushing him toward -- more accurate and right neo cons of both parties -- from the Oakland east institute thanks very much. It's always a pleasure low until next ones like thanks for joining us Wayne Allyn root is."
