" Mad -- holy days to go before President Bush's term comes to an end I got the unique opportunity to see what a day in the life of the president is like. And tonight we bring you part one -- the president on his daily walk from the White House residence to the --"

" Us. Had only a few days left. Hanoi. We are coming to the end of what has been offended -- Germany and down. I've got mixed emotions of course I'm gonna miss the White House staff and I'm on this being the commander in chief of affect -- military. But I also recognize safe. Tonight. When -- time's up it's and and really looking forward to getting home. There's this usual walk every -- it is I've been doing this for nearly eight years. And walk out here early in the morning and got a spectacular view movie the monument. Right every morning you know -- bogged down here and hey your -- going to great. Monuments to. American history and and the South Lawn is so beautiful anytime years in the grand. Get a grand Vista to it no trees here that. You planet back different presidents. When you know he had just a few days left to get emotional do you think they're not really. I don't get that emotional at this point because. I've I've been saying about it people for. Couple weeks now and I'm sure I'd get I'd get emotional as we get to the end public tea though that. I am. I'm also fortunate to have served and fortunate to be on the front -- of history the swearing in of president elect Obama's gonna be an historic moment for the country and I will be sitting right there observing it and and you got this little time with -- yes and if that they -- it. Smart capable person who is. You know he's got a presence about him and he's he's listened he's asking good questions and listened and it's it's gonna be give that much yet they are fascinating because they had. Two men who were. About 385 if not to get your 62 of them and a man 47 shows of fashion a generational. Moment as well as it's pretty elite club it is."

" If you think it was all led to -- people talk about legacies of presidents and approval ratings are all those few think it. If every American and and one of the things we want to doing this interview was to get to see just a day in the life for a few of snapshot of life from W being president. If they got to read those daily briefings -- threat assessments that you read every day."

" There have a different view of viewed the job."

" The pressure. I am I think it probably would bit. You know."

" The circumstances of the moment determined these so called approval. But one thing that. I would hope when it's all said and done people say that he was the same man -- there was I didn't try to change -- principles are changed my. Character. In order to chase popularity. And what's more important me and I and that crap I think eventually the American people is not the momentary approval could have been and I've been not so did. But it's whether or not. In the face of danger -- stood strong and whether or not I stayed true to my convictions. And I tell people that. When I get home in Texas after this unbelievable experience. I will look in the mirror. And be proud of what I say. And that's. And that's really important for all of us in life."

" On approach a lot of us have been like I think if you don't have principles guiding principles. He's thinking that this is the question may be that. I've often wondered as we talk about the solely club I was watching. Your your -- deficit to about it is a good that's a cigarette market that's look -- I was watching in this very room. There was your dad and and President Carter president elect Obama drew and her hand Bill Clinton right here. That's thinking about this very elite club that you've been a part of."

" And he thinks is a certain destiny percent of your man of deep faith."

" Visited destiny or hand you can you do aspire to be president I think first of all I think that those who say you know I am very reluctant."

" To say. Of all the people of the world I have been picked out by the almighty big and the reason I'm reluctant to say that is one I don't know. Secondly RB is for me to put myself in the almighty shouldn't -- position that. I have. Receive a lot of comfort as a result of my faith would never have I felt like I was any better than anybody else is a result of my faith or I was. You know. Person as a result of my face some some believe that I I have real trouble. As -- You know saying well I know what god was thinking when he because hill. And so. When he ran for president. It's a combination of obviously. The experiences you've -- life. The principles you believe. And the desire to get something done. And we all -- a different philosophies and different backgrounds. But I would say the common. The common. The common ground with -- all the people have been president there has been a desire. To get things done on behalf the American people and -- you know I had there's a lot of talk about faith and politics I always say when my favorite Bible passages when it comes to political figures I should not be taking a speck out of -- I want to have a log in my home that's good for everybody there really isn't. -- as well as you look at this office that I look around this office. Lot of tough decisions were made it here and then you once told me that the job of the president is to make decisions yes or some of the toughest moment you've had in this office. Well by far the tough."

" This moment is to make the decision. To put men and women. Of our military in the combat."

" Did you make that decision here do you remember it well I've got I'm sure I'm confident I know a lot of that process -- was done here available this is where I spent a lot of time and a lot of meetings it went into. You know whether or not it was necessary. Two. Remove Saddam Hussein or whether or not it was important to. Rid Afghanistan of the Taliban were both were discussed here and I'm the decision. A decision by the way -- Issue of this magnitude. Takes awhile to Iraq had had an averages went before you put people in harm's way you want to listen to a lot of voice at least I want it to. And a lot of opinions. And think through all the different circumstances as best as you possibly can. Before you make that commitment. And so the toughest call would be the calls have been made. And here in the oval would be that -- of Warren. War sending our troops and war."

" That would have part two of my interview with President Bush on tomorrow night's program including his advice to the incoming president. Barack Obama plus."

Well did he worked in a White House before so that would be an asset he would come to the job understanding what the organization the White House was wiped. Also understanding that the White House's article two in the constitution not article one. Barack Obama has been a product of article one the congress the United States senate article -- is very different. -- Ron Emanuel is a very smart man he's very well organized he does have sharp elbows to adapt. Put those aside or at least not let them -- too much if you became the chief of staff because really have to be. Smooth calm collected and try to bridge challenges rather than create them look like I. I guess it -- for how important is home and so immediately hear Barack Obama is elected on this idea overall -- unite and work together. Is this the right first choice. Well I think. The right choices whoever the president elect wants because that is a constituency of one when you're the chief of staff and that's the president United States. So I would think if he's compatible with the president that's fine but the president gives definition to the country into the executive branch the chief of staff gives a personality to the White House staff and I think that the president -- should think about that when he decides who the chief of staff should be.
