Everyone knows Yahoo's signature yodel, right? But how well can you do it?
As part of the company's "It’s Y!ou” global re-branding campaign, Yahoo is inviting people to submit their own rendition of the famous sound—with the help of some famous people.
This morning in New York City's Times Square, such well known musicians as Jewel, LeAnn Rimes, Randy Jackson, Pete Wentz, and Kimberly Caldwellare on hand in a recording studio to help users get their yodel on. There are also record-your-own yodel" kiosks throughout Times Square.
“I'm surrounded by such great talent on American Idol, truly great talent. And what makes the singer stand out is when they put their own style into the mix, taking a song everyone knows and turning it into their own cool version,” says American Idol judge, Randy Jackson. “You never know what you’re gonna get, but I love it when something stands out.”
In addition, Yahoo! is hosting live recording events today in London and Mumbai also featuring celebrity coaches from the music industry to help yodelers. Can't get there? From now until November 8th, people can create and submit their own yodel at yodelstudio.yahoo.com.
Yodels will go gold based on the number of times each is viewed, and one submission will be chosen from the US, UK and India. Participants can use built-in social media tools to help generate awareness for their yodels; voting will take place from November 9th to the 16th. For those needing just a little more encouragement, Yahoo promises to make a donation to global charities for each yodel submitted in the online contest.
