Virgin Galactic has reported an unspecified problem during a test flight of its SpaceShipTwo space tourism rocket above the Mojave desert.

The company tweeted Friday that SpaceShipTwo was flying under rocket power and then tweeted that it had "experienced an in-flight anomaly." The tweet said more information would be forthcoming.

The anomaly apparently occurred after the plane fired its rocket motor following a high-altitude drop from the company’s WhiteKnightTwo mothership, according to SpaceFlightNow.com.

SpaceFlightNow.com also cited scanner traffic from local first responders, which indicated wreckage from a crashed aircraft. Parachutes were reportedly seen in the air.

Virgin Galactic has not yet responded to a request for comment from FoxNews.com.
