From the terrifying coconut crab to the shocking giant isopod to the merely ugly (like Miss Ellie), nature's creatures aren't all beauties. Here are 33 animals you'll wish you hadn't seen.
The Ugly Animal Preservation Society has a new mascot: the blobfish.
The gelatinous deep-sea dweller was voted the world's ugliest animal beating out the big-nosed proboscis monkey, the "scrotum frog" and eight other equally hideous nominees.
According the the U.K.-based organization's website, the Ugly Animal Preservation Society has long been searching for a face for their society to help protect "Mother Nature's more aesthetically challenged children" because "the panda gets too much attention."
What started off as a night of comedy lead by the society's "President for Life" biologist Simon Watt, ended up in raising awareness for less fortunate looking endangered species.
"There are too many people trying to save cute animals," physicist Brain Cox said in support of the campaign. "They get all the press, and all the attention. Ugly animals are more deserving than cute animals."
Sad-faced blobfish are at risk of being caught in fishing trawlers as they feed off crabs and lobsters off the coast of Australia and Tasmania. Researchers fear the fish are at risk of becoming endangered due to overfishing, according to the Telegraph.
Do you think the blobfish is deserving of this win? We've compiled a list of the world's 30 ugliest creatures.
