You know the guy: The one clad in a blinding shade of orange perched behind home plate at important baseball games. Now known simply as "Marlins Man," lawyer Laurence Leavy has parlayed his sports fandom into, well, large-scale sports fandom.
Leavy -- having transformed major sporting events into his own version of "Where's Waldo?" -- has gained over 18,000 followers on Instagram and 53,000 fans on Twitter.
Now, the Marlins superfan is hoping to hook a buyer for his $1.8 million mansion in Miami. There's just one catch: The interior of the home has been gutted.
We asked listing agent Sid Koslovsky whether Leavy had fallen on hard times. Too many pricy ticket purchases? He laughed us off, saying Leavy is under no financial duress whatsoever.
His client is simply exploring the market beyond his gated community, Koslovsky said. If the property generates no interest over the next couple of months, the listing will be pulled and Leavy will start the renovation himself.
The work required is significant. "Depending on a buyer's taste, the cost of renovations would range anywhere between $350,000 and $600,000," Koslovsky said. Comps in the neighborhood would support the renovation cost, with homes in this exclusive community selling between $2.1 and $2.3 million.
So if you can see past the green water in the pool, the holes in the ceiling, and the utter lack of flooring, maybe you can tiptoe in this rabid fan's footsteps and score a bargain in the process.
And if you do close the deal on this fixer-upper, Koslovsky says you may come away with a souvenir. "I think it would be his pleasure to take a picture with a buyer. That's if you can catch him when he's in town."
