Looking to own a piece of Hollywood history? The Golden Age may be long over, but its legacy remains at the $4.49 million Encino, CA, estate of entertainment legends Steve Allen and Jayne Meadows.
Allen originated the modern idea of the talk show as the first host of "The Tonight Show" and won a Grammy for jazz composition. Meadows sang and acted -- often starring alongside Allen -- and had a prolific career appearing on game shows, including "What's My Line?"
The couple resided at their " legendary hilltop estate" -- a 7,542-square-foot home -- for 57 years. The estate sits on 1.15 acres, which are walled and gated.
Built in 1951, the five-bedroom home features a number of period architectural details, including a staircase that winds through the living room, geometric white-wood room dividers, and a mint-green bathroom.
The swimming pool is surrounded by impeccably landscaped grounds, which also include a large patio, several fountains, and statues of cherubim playing instruments.
