Sure, this beach house in Cedar Key, FL, listed for $155,000, is small in size. But guess what? It's proof positive that you don't have to go big to have a dreamy vacation home!
Built in 1950, this tiny home has a charming Elvis in "Blue Hawaii" vibe with wood siding, a pyramid hipped roof, and an adorable door with bright green trim.
Coming in at just 400 square feet, this home is smaller than many studio apartments, but the setup doesn't feel anything like a third-floor walk-up -- at least not the ones we've lived in. Instead the space is cleverly divided into four rooms, allowing for some much-needed privacy.
The living room is the largest room in the home with sufficient space for (small) sofas, armchairs, and a (small) entertainment center. The room appears larger than it is due to the sloped ceiling and four large windows that bring in an abundance of Florida sunshine.
The kitchen is minuscule, but not without charm. "It is a galley-style kitchen and just an incredibly cute space" says listing agent Anne Young. The screened backdoor can be opened to add natural light.
Off the kitchen is the bathroom with a walk-in shower and the bedroom, which is large enough to hold a full-size bed.
The home has a gorgeous, low-maintenance yard full of native tropical plants. "The yard is xeriscaped, so you don't have to do anything with it," says Young. There are also two driveways and enough space to park a boat.
The property comes with a large, private boat dock. The dock is partly covered, making it an ideal space to throw a (small) party, nicely protected from Florida's sudden squalls. There's also a private pier to park your (small) boat for quick getaways.
And then there is the location: It's anything but tiny! The place is centrally located in Cedar Key, part of a cluster of small islands in the Gulf of Mexico farther north than their famous cousins the Florida Keys. Your primary neighbors are other islands.
"There is another little island within sight and another bigger island within boating distance," says Young. "It has a bird sanctuary and a lighthouse." Sweet!
