DETROIT —
A newspaper reports Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick may have transferred some appointees into civil service positions before he left office. The Detroit News reported Friday that it has identified six people who were moved last month into the Detroit Workforce Development Department.
The newspaper says Mayor Ken Cockrel Jr. is looking into the transfers.
Kilpatrick appointed more than 100 people to work in his administration. Most lost their positions when he resigned as part of plea deals to two criminal cases.
Cockrel spokesman Daniel Cherrin says the appointees may have been transferred into several departments.
The Associated Press left a message seeking comment Friday night from a Kilpatrick lawyer.
