THE POLL: Detroit Free Press/WDIV-TV poll, the presidential race among likely voters in Michigan (17 electoral votes).
THE NUMBERS: Barack Obama 53 percent, John McCain 37 percent.
OF INTEREST: Obama maintains a double-digit lead in a state McCain once actively contested; he pulled out last month. Obama holds a wide lead among women, while the race among men is narrower. Whites break about even, while all blacks questioned backed Obama, except for a handful of undecideds.
THE DETAILS: Conducted by telephone Oct. 28-31 by Selzer & Co. among 616 likely voters. Margin of sampling error plus or minus 4 percentage points.
