Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine describes being seriously considered as Barack Obama's running mate as a "surreal" experience.
Kaine told reporters on a conference call Saturday that he has mixed feelings about not being chosen. He said at least he can look forward to having a good time with his family at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
He praised Obama's selection of Delaware Sen. Joe Biden. Kaine said Biden brings to the ticket a range of good qualities, including experience in foreign policy, the judiciary and working for families.
Kaine declined to say exactly how and when he got word that he would not be Obama's running mate.
