A 1990 article by Barack Obama, then-president of the Harvard Law Review, shows his commitment to abortion rights and suggests that the government may have more important concerns that "ensuring that any particular fetus is born."
The Politico Web site unearthed the six-page summary and reported on its content on Friday.
In the article, Obama expressed support for an Illinois Supreme Court ruling that the unborn cannot sue their mothers for negligence and suggested that allowing fetuses to sue would violate the mother's rights and could cause her to take more risks with her pregnancy.
The article is one of the few published pieces that Obama wrote while he was a student and a law professor in Chicago.
