Minnesota Republican Sen. Norm Coleman responded Thursday to an attack ad released by his opponent that depicted his Capitol Hill living arrangements as luxurious -- an ad Coleman claims was an attempt to mislead voters.

In a Web video of his own, Coleman's senatorial campaign sought to debunk Democratic opponent Al Franken's ad by showing pictures of the English basement apartment that he and his family rent for $600 a month -- a stark difference from the sunny, swanky upstairs room that Franken's campaign said he lived in.

"Three kids and their mom and dad live in the house that Al Franken lies about in his television commercial," Coleman's campaign manager Cullen Sheehan said in a statement issued Thursday.

"While most Minnesotans know that a basement bedroom and bathroom is worth $600 a month, Al Franken wants to distract Minnesotans from his record of offensive jokes and not paying his taxes. Perhaps a bit more honesty on the part of the Franken Campaign, and less distortions might be the order of the day," he said.
