It looks like the North Carolina primary will come and go Tuesday without an endorsement from the state's most prominent power couple.
John and Elizabeth Edwards discussed their likes and dislikes about Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama with People magazine, but claimed they don't plan to give any endorsements.
The former North Carolina senator and presidential candidate said he likes Clinton's "tenacity" but not what he sees as her "old politics," in the article posted on the magazine's Web site Monday.
On Obama, Edwards said: "Sometimes I want to see more substance under the rhetoric."
He added, "It's a great symbolic thing to have an African-American who could be president," though his wife argued Clinton provided just as great a symbol, as a woman who could be president.
Elizabeth Edwards said she likes Clinton's health care plan but is turned off by the "lobbyist money" she takes.
She said she's encouraged by the number of young voters Obama has motivated.
