A new Pew Research Center poll shows Barack Obama's national lead over Hillary Clinton narrowing, adding to the evidence that recent presidential campaign controversies could be hurting him.

The poll gave the Illinois senator a 2-point lead over Sen. Clinton of New York, 47-to-45 percent. That's down from a 10-point Obama lead a month ago in the same poll.

The poll also found that Obama's unfavorable ratings rose 6 points among Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters. It found Clinton's unfavorable ratings among those groups increased by 7 points, a sign that the protracted and bitter Democratic primary contest could be doing equal damage to both candidates.

Seventy-five percent of Democrats still view Obama as honest, while just 57 percent feel the same about Clinton, according to the poll.

Both candidates lead John McCain in head-to-head general election matchups. Obama leads 50-to-44 percent; Clinton leads 49-to-45 percent.

A FOX News poll released Wednesday also found Obama's image suffering. His unfavorable rating went up from 33 percent in February to 42 percent, according to the poll.

The polls were taken after controversy mounted surrounding his former pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.

The Pew poll was conducted April 23-27 of 651 registered voters.
