The latest daily Gallup tracking poll shows Hillary Clinton up 1 point over Barack Obama in a national head-to-head match-up, 47-46 percent.

The Tuesday poll, which takes a combined average of the previous three days of surveys of Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters, shows a statistical tie. It is the fifth report in a row that shows the ongoing horse race in the Democratic presidential nominating process within 1 point.

"From a broad perspective, this situation marks a loss for Obama, who has generally been in the lead over Clinton for the last month. At the same time, -- coming off of her victory in the Pennsylvania primary, and almost certainly benefiting from the news media focus on controversies surrounding Obama -- has been unable to move into a significant lead," the Gallup poll notes.

Clinton was at one of her lowest points in the tracking poll on April 21, just one day before she won the Pennsylvania primary.

The poll comes as North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley offered his backing to the New York senator in a state where Obama is leading by double digits, 51-37, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports poll.

North Carolina and Indiana vote next Tuesday. Obama has closed the gap in the Hoosier State to dead-even 45.5-45.5, according to an average of polls done by RealClearPolitics.

The Gallup poll shows Clinton with a 2-point margin over presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain, 47-45 while Obama trails McCain 46-44 in the latest tracking poll of the general election.
