Bill Clinton went on a tirade over the weekend during a private meeting with superdelegates at a state convention in California, not only telling the group to "chill out," but reportedly turning red with anger over Gov. Bill Richardson's decision to endorse Barack Obama.
According to a story published in Wednesday's San Francisco Chronicle, the former president erupted with anger, irately telling delegate Rachel Binah that "five times to my face [Richardson] said that he would never do that."
Binah, who said she first supported the New Mexico governor's presidential ambitions but now backs Hillary Clinton, apparently triggered the outburst when she told the former president that she was "sorry" to hear his onetime campaign manager James Carville compare Richardson to "Judas" because of his decision to back Obama.
Clinton blasted Richardson as well as the national media for what he described as biased coverage in the campaign, the newspaper wrote.
However, another California superdelegate told FOX News on Wednesday that he was in the private meet-and-greet on Sunday, and he thought Binah's account of Bill Clinton's reaction was distorted.
Chris Stampolis, who has endorsed Hillary Clinton, said he standing next to Binah when she made her remark. Bill Clinton did talk about his disappointment over Richardson 's endorsement of Obama but was never over the edge as the article suggested.
Two other superdelegates who spoke to the newspaper sided with Binah's account.
"It was very, very intense," one attendee said. "Not at all like the Bill of earlier campaigns."
Another superdelegate characterized the gathering as "one of the worst political meetings I have ever attended."
