The race for the Democratic nomination is down to 12 remaining contests that run through June, and the total vote-count so far is showing Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama running neck-and-neck.

And in another twist to the contentious debate over what role Florida and Michigan should play in the nomination (both were stripped of their delegates after they broke party rules to hold early contests), Obama's lead in the popular vote is a mere 3,000 votes including ballots from those two states.

Total Votes Counted (including Michigan and Florida)

Obama: 13,889,742

Clinton: 13,886,387

Total Votes Counted (including Florida, but NOT Michigan)

Obama: 13,889,742

Clinton: 13,558,078

Total Votes Counted (NOT including Michigan or Florida)

Obama: 13,313,528

Clinton: 12,687,092

NOTES:

Votes are still being counted in Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas, and Vermont; the most recent vote results (from approximately 12:15pm on March 5) are included.

Obama was not on the ballot in Michigan.

At this time, Florida and Michigan are not allocated any delegates to the Democratic National Convention.

Democrats did not release popular vote totals from the Iowa, Nevada, Maine, Texas or Washington caucuses; these events are not included.

Popular vote totals from the Feb. 19 Washington "beauty contest" primary are included.

Totals include results from American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Island, and Democrats Abroad.
