A top adviser to White House Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton faces a Jan. 31 arraignment after being arrested on charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated one day before the New Hampshire primary.
Sidney Blumenthal was allegedly driving close to 70 mph in a 30-mph speed limit around 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 7. Police say they smelled alcohol and administered a sobriety test. They then took Blumenthal into custody.
The officer, Sgt. Mike Masella, said Blumenthal claimed to have just left Manchester and was on his way to his hotel, even though he was driving in the opposite direction. Masella told the Nashua Telegraph, which first reported the story, that Blumenthal later admitted he was lost.
The adviser was bailed out of the local jail that morning.
