About the bill

Legislation to reauthorize Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), formerly called fast track. TPA is the authority Congress grants to the President to enter into certain reciprocal trade agreements, and to have their implementing bills considered under expedited legislative procedures. TPA effectively assures U.S. trade partners that final agreements will be given timely and unamended consideration. TPA would allow the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact to get an up-or-down vote in Congress. The previous grant of TPA expired on July 1, 2007. The trade promotion language is now part of an unrelated tax measure.
