About the bill

The Minimum Wage Fairness Act would increase in the federal minimum wage from today's $7.25 an hour up to $10.10 in three steps over two years. After that, the federal minimum wage would rise annually, indexed to inflation. The federal minimum wage for tipped employees would increase to $3.00 an hour, but subsequent annual adjustments would continue to push the minimum wage for tipped employees up until it equals 70% of the regular minimum wage. Republicans argue that raising the minimum wage would hurt the economy.
