Hillary Clinton counterpunched the self-proclaimed counterpuncher, hitting Donald Trump for an apparent lack of preparedness and highlighting her own decades of political experience during a discussion about race and policing in America at Monday night’s presidential debate.

Trump, the Republican nominee, was discussing his speeches to members of the African American community after moderator Lester Holt asked if police were “implicitly biased against black people.” In the middle of his answer, Trump noted as an aside that Clinton, the Democrat nominee, hasn’t been as active on the campaign trail as he has been recently.

“I’ve been all over the place,” Trump said. “You decided to stay home, and that’s okay.”

That’s when Clinton landed a response that garnered applause from a crowd that had been told to remain silent.

“I think Trump just criticized me for preparing for this debate,” Clinton said. “And yes I did. And you know what else I prepared for? I prepared to be president, and I think that’s a good thing.”

Trump didn’t respond and Holt moved the debate on to a new topic.
