President Obama called out Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Friday for blocking ratification of pending international tax treaties, two of which deal with offshore banking havens Switzerland and Luxembourg.

Paul has "been a little quirky on this issue," Obama said to reporters in the White House.

The treaties "actually improve law enforcement's ability to investigate and crack down on offshore tax evasion; and I'm assuming that's not something that he's in favor of," Obama said during a last-minute news conference on Friday meant to highlight the Treasury Department's new efforts, unveiled Friday morning, to curb tax dodging and stem money laundering.

Paul has held up the treaties over privacy concerns.
