Last month, University of Pennsylvania sophomore Nathaniel Rome filed a petition in Commonwealth Court claiming Kasich had failed to submit enough valid voter signatures to have his name included on the April 26 ballot.
Lawrence Otter, a lawyer for Kasich, admitted in a court hearing March 9 that the campaign had fallen eight signatures short of the 2,000 total that were required, but said the student's charges were irrelevant because he had filed his complaint 13 minutes after the deadline to challenge nominating petitions.
Rome had refused to drop the challenge despite calls from Kasich's campaign over the weekend to let it go. Commonwealth Court judges had not ruled on whether the challenge was valid.
