Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley blasted Hillary Clinton Saturday night over her past stances on gun control, saying she has flipped on the issue "every election year" since 2000 when she ran for Senate in New York.
O'Malley ripped Clinton and fellow Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders during Saturday's third Democratic debate, saying both are not progressive enough on the issue. The governor called for comprehensive gun safety legislation in Congress.
"I'm the only person on this stage that's actually passed comprehensive legislation with a ban on combat assault weapons," O'Malley said. "Sen. Sanders voted against the Brady bill. Sen. Sanders voted to give immunity to gun dealers, and Sen. Sanders even voted against giving research dollars to look into this public health issues."
"Secretary Clinton changes her position on this every election year it seems, having one position on this in 2000, then campaigning against President Obama and saying we don't need federal standards," O'Malley said. "Look, what we need on this issue is not more polls -- we need more principle."
