Officials with the intelligence community believe a pair of emails included in a sample of Hillary Clinton's private messages reviewed earlier this year are indeed classified at the "top secret" level despite the State Department's insistence that the records were not so highly classified.

Both of the emails were top secret the moment they passed through Clinton's personal server, and one is still classified at that level to this day, according to a report by Fox News.

A Politico report from early November suggested intelligence officials were prepared to walk back initial claims that the emails in question were top secret, but the new report indicated the intelligence community had made no such finding.

Instead, officials softened the designation of one of the emails while leaving the other at the top secret level, but reportedly left untouched their ruling that both were top secret when they were written.
