Actor Leonardo DiCaprio is a big proponent of prioritizing climate change as the biggest issue facing the U.S. and the world, and says Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., is the most qualified presidential candidate to take on that challenge.

"Look, not to get political, but listening to Bernie Sanders at that first presidential debate was pretty inspiring — to hear what he said about the environment," DiCaprio told Wired magazine.

"Who knows which candidate is going to become our next president, but we need to create a dialogue about it," the "Revenant" star continued. "I mean, when they asked each of the candidates what the most important issue facing our planet is, Bernie Sanders simply said climate change. To me that's inspiring."

"Today, the scientific community is virtually unanimous," Sanders said in the first debate. "Climate change is really, it's caused by human activity and we have a moral responsibility to transform our energy system away from fossil fuel to energy efficiency and sustainable energy, and leave this planet a habitable planet for our children and our grandchildren."
