A Taliban attack an the airport in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar has left at least 37 dead and 35 injured, according to reports.

According to the defense ministry, among the dead and injured in the Tuesday overnight attack include both civilians and members of Afghan security forces. Nearly 24 hours later, security forces had not yet neutralized the Taliban forces.

"Afghanistan's national army forces are bravely fighting terrorists in airport areas and are trying to act cautiously to avoid harm to civilians," the ministry said.

Nine Taliban fighters were killed, one was wounded, and a final survivor was still resisting security forces, the defense ministry said.
