He may be the Democrats' second choice in the polls, but Bernie Sanders has topped Hillary Clinton as the people's choice in Time magazine's annual Person of the Year vote.
In the poll that closed Sunday at midnight, the Vermont senator and socialist finished in first place with 10.2 percent of the vote. Among those on the list include Malala Yousafzai, the co-recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, who got 5.2 percent, Pope Francis (3.7 percent) and President Obama (3.5 percent).
Former Secretary of State and current Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton picked up just 1.4 percent, while Republican nominee leader Donald Trump garnered 1.7 percent.
Other political leaders also trailed Sanders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi (2.9 percent), German Chancellor Angela Merkel (2.4 percent), Attorney General Loretta Lynch (2.2 percent), Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy (2.2 percent) and Russian President Vladimir Putin (2.1 percent).
