Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., introduced legislation Thursday legalizing concealed carry in Washington, D.C.
"For too long the Americans who live in and visit their nation's capital have been prevented from defending themselves and their loved ones. No longer should our citizens have to choose between safety or visiting Washington, D.C.," Paul said in a statement to the Washington Examiner.
Paul's tack comes in the wake of Wednesday's San Bernardino shootings that killed 14. Democrats in the Senate immediately pursued legislation opposite from Paul's, and introduced greater gun control measures to legislation being considered Thursday.
