The United Nations' Security Council unanimously passed a resolution Friday calling all nations "to combat by all means" the threat the Islamic State is to international peace and security after Islamic State fighters killed 130 people in Paris last week.
The resolution instructs countries to take all possible actions to prevent other attacks by the Islamic State and other terrorist groups, including the eradication of all Islamic State-owned property in Iraq and Syria. It calls for countries to tighten border controls to avoid letting terrorists in and stop funding the group through crude oil purchases. However, it is not the same as an authorization to use military action.
It is the 14th terrorism-related resolution to be adopted by the U.N. body since 1999, according to the Associated Press.
