GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump said he would be keeping an eye on American mosques in order to monitor Islamic State activity if he were elected president.
"Well you're going to have to watch and study the mosques, because a lot of talk is going on at the mosques. And from what I've heard is that in the old days, meaning a while ago, we had great surveillance going on in the mosques in and around New York City, and I understand our mayor totally cut that out," Trump said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Monday, adding that we was "not sure it's a fact," but would want to explore reimplementing such surveillance.
The real estate mogul also said he would send an additional 10,000 combat troops to fight the terrorists and also track countries sending money to ISIS. He added that the main problem with the Islamic State is "hatred beyond belief." He claimed that although many Muslims are "great people," the entire religion has been "so badly tarnished by what's happening now, it's a shame.
"If I were president, we probably wouldn't be in the problems we have right now," Trump claimed. "It's incredible we have an attack and suddenly we bomb all these sites? Why didn't we bomb these sites before? We should have bombed them a long time ago."
